LTV Mentoring Network

In 2025 the LTV Mentoring Network celebrated 20 years of bringing beginning and accomplished teachers together to share knowledge, support and ideas.


Funded through the Department of Education’s Strategic Partnerships Program, participation in the Mentoring Network provides:

  • partnership between a beginning and accomplished teacher of the same language across 2026

  • a zoom session with your mentoring partner and the LTV Project Manager to launch the project

  • a Collegiate Classroom Visit (to be organised at a mutually convenient time with your mentoring partner and supported by a $400 contribution to CRT release)

  • free registration for the LTV Annual Conference (Friday 4 December)

This program is FREE for LTV members.

Victorian Curriculum 2.0 Implementation Support

To support Languages teachers with the implementation of VC2.0, LTV has a number of resources and professional learning opportunities available:


Units of Learning - a unit planning template and a number of sample units have been developed by experienced teachers of Languages. These units align with VC2.0 and the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0 (VTLM 2.0) and are available on the LTV website.

We are excited to announce that Dr Gianfranco Conti will be joining us for a full day workshop for Victorian Languages teachers on Friday 22 May.


Gianfranco Conti’s mission is to make current cognitive science and applied linguistics research available to the busy classroom practitioner and to translate them into implementable and impactful instructional strategies which make Languages accessible for all.


Attend this full day workshop to:

  • explore an evidence-based deep dive into teaching speaking: from hesitation to spontaneity

  • unpack the principles of the Extensive Processing Instruction (EPI) approach and how to apply them in your Languages program

  • be supported to design a mini-unit based on the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 for Languages and embed Conti’s strategies for engaging and effective Languages learning

Graduate and Returnee Teachers of Languages Workshop

Languages teachers currently teaching in government schools who have recently graduated or returned to the Languages classroom after a period of absence are invited to participate in a FREE full-day professional learning workshop.

Friday 20 March 9am - 3pm  
Venue:
Graduate House, 220 Leicester St Carlton

This workshop is designed to support graduate and returning teachers to provide quality Languages programs in schools by:

  • introducing participants to key people, networks and organisations supporting Languages teachers

  • sharing practical strategies and information about evidence-based pedagogies, current resources and professional learning opportunities 

  • facilitating language-specific workshops and opportunities for networking with other teachers of Languages.

The event is facilitated by Languages Teachers Victoria (LTV) on behalf of the Department of Education.

There is no cost to participate. The Department of Education will provide CRT release costs to your school for successful applicants, where applicable.

Building Languages Leaders

Participate in this FREE webinar to find out more about hosting a Building Languages Leaders event - a free 2-hour in-school incursion which provides opportunities for:

  • 20 selected Year 3-6 students to be trained as Languages Leaders to build their leadership capacity and extend their skills in the Language they are learning at school.

  • 40 selected Foundation - Year 2 students to participate in engaging language learning experiences, co-facilitated by their school’s trained Year 3-6 Language Leaders.

In 2026 a limited number of events will be held in government schools teaching Chinese, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese and Spanish. These will be facilitated by experienced Languages teachers who are trained members of the Languages Teachers Victoria (LTV) Project Team.


There is no cost to host an event - all costs are covered by the Department of Education's Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series (VCES) initiative and all resources are provided by the LTV Project Team.

The ELLA apps were designed for Australian students by language, early childhood and technology experts to be social and collaborative resources used as part of a play-based preschool and school Languages program.


A key part of the Australian Government’s commitment to supporting language learning, ELLA inspires children by driving a genuine interest in a new language and culture. The program has been successfully trialled in schools and preschools and is now available to all Australian schools in 13 languages.


Join this full day workshop to:

  • identify how the ELLA apps support language learning and align with VC:Languages 2.0

  • explore the language introduced through the apps

  • discover the off-screen resources which can be used flexibly by teachers and families to encourage further engagement with language learning

  • learn how to get started with using the ELLA resources

News from VCAA

To support teachers to plan for implementation of Version 2 of the Victorian Curriculum, the VCAA has recently published templates for curriculum area plans, curriculum area maps and teaching and learning units for Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Modern Greek and Spanish.

Head to https://f10.vcaa.vic.edu.au/learning-areas/languages, select the relevant language, hit the “resources” tab and scroll down.  Or, search the Resource Hub.


Soon the VCAA will also be publishing a suite of curriculum planning example resources for each of these nine languages. These materials will be appearing on the Resource Hub and they will be populated with language-specific content.
