Strengthening Indonesia–Australia Education Ties Through Strategic Partnership

It was a great honour to welcome again Her Royal Highness Queen Mangkubumi of Yogyakarta and Professor Dr Edy Suandi Hamid, M.Ec., Rector of Universitas Widya Mataram, to Adelaide for strategic discussions with the Adelaide Education Group (AEG).

Together with AEG President Don Chen, Adelaide Institute of Higher Education (AIHE) CEO Fatima Reyes-Della Verde, Adelaide Institute of Business & Technology (AIBT) CEO Kerrie Evans, Adelaide International School (AIS) Principal Steve Bousfield, AEG Director of Transnational Education Raul Hernandez, and Adelaide Research Institute Director Dr Peter Mickan, we explored opportunities to deepen collaboration across transnational education, research, and student pathways. Following their visit to Adelaide, the delegation also visited AEG’s Melbourne campus as part of their Australia engagement.

The visits highlight the power of cultural diplomacy in building trust and strengthening long-term partnerships. Our shared focus is clear: expanding pathways, advancing transnational education initiatives, and fostering meaningful research collaboration that supports globally connected learning.

We look forward to translating these conversations into impactful initiatives for our students and institutions. Strengthening education ties between Indonesia and Australia, one partnership at a time.

January-February Birthday Celebrants

At AIHE, AIBT, and AIS of the AEG, we believe our greatest strength is our people. We were delighted to come together across our Adelaide and Melbourne campuses to celebrate our January and February birthday celebrants. This bi-monthly gathering was made even more special with Her Majesty Queen Mangkubumi of Yogyakarta joining us, as February is also her birth month. Her presence added a wonderful sense of warmth and occasion to the celebration.

Moments like these remind us of the importance of connection and appreciation for the people who bring energy and dedication to our community every day.

To our celebrants, we wish you a year ahead filled with good health, success, and many reasons to celebrate. Thank you to everyone who helps make AEG such a supportive and positive community.

Lunar New Year Celebration

AEG was delighted to celebrate the Lunar New Year across both campuses, bringing together culture, tradition, and shared joy as we welcomed a new year of opportunity and renewal.

This year’s celebration was especially meaningful as we were honoured by the presence of Her Majesty, Queen Mangkubimi of Yogyakarta, Prof Edy Suandie Hamid, M.Ec from the Universitas Widya Mataram, and Dr Dwi A. Yuliantoro, Ph.D, President of the Nusa Widyantara Indonesia. Our guests added special significance to our festivities and reflected the strong cultural connections that enrich our global community.

As we welcome the Year of the Fire Horse, a symbol of energy, courage, passion, and forward momentum, we are reminded of the spirit of bold progress and resilience that inspires our community. The Fire Horse is associated with ambition and dynamic growth, qualities that resonate strongly with our shared journey at AEG.

Wishing our community a joyful and prosperous year ahead.

Fortune Cookie

Across our campuses this Lunar New Year, staff and students gathered for a simple but joyful tradition: opening fortune cookies and reading aloud what the year ahead might hold.

There was laughter, a few thoughtful pauses, and plenty of smiles as fortunes spoke of courage, new opportunities, perseverance, and unexpected successes. The Year of the Fire Horse is said to symbolise energy, independence, passion, and forward momentum. It feels fitting for a community of learners, educators, and leaders who are constantly moving, growing, and embracing new possibilities.

Moments like these remind us that while we work hard toward our goals, it is the shared experiences, cultural traditions, and sense of community that make our campuses truly special.

Here is to a year of bold ideas, resilience, and new beginnings for our staff, students, and partners.

Study Adelaide Roadshow in Sydney

It was a pleasure for AEG with its three schools - AIHE, AIBT, and AIS - to participate in the Study Adelaide Roadshow in Sydney, alongside fellow South Australian education providers and Sydney based education agents.

The event featured a presentation from Study Adelaide, followed by a dedicated networking session that enabled participating institutions to engage directly with local agents. The session offered valuable insights into the continued growth of international students in South Australia, reinforcing the state’s strong and growing appeal as a study destination. Study Adelaide also highlighted the range of initiatives in place to support international students, with a strong focus on student experience, wellbeing, employability, and settlement.

Engaging with agents and industry partners in Sydney was a valuable opportunity to strengthen relationships, exchange market insights, and collectively promote South Australia as a leading education hub. These onshore market roadshows, including upcoming sessions in Sydney and Melbourne, continue to provide a practical and effective platform for collaboration between institutions and agents.

Thank you to Study Adelaide for delivering a well-structured and insightful event, and for their continued leadership and support of the international education sector.

Study Adelaide Roadshow in Melbourne

The AEG participated in the StudyAdelaide Roadshow in Melbourne, which provided a valuable opportunity to engage with onshore agents actively recruiting in offshore markets, including Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, as well as Europe and Latin America. These face-to-face discussions were productive, strengthening existing relationships and opening new opportunities for future offshore recruitment across our secondary, vocational, and higher education offerings.

This engagement builds on the momentum from the recent Study Adelaide Roadshow in Sydney, where AEG connected with agents and partners across key markets and gained further insights into student demand and mobility trends for its AIHE, AIBT, and AIS.

Together, these events reinforced the importance of consistent in-market presence, relationship building, and targeted engagement as we continue to diversify markets and strengthen AEG’s recruitment pipeline.

Mr Hernandez will work closely with AEG's overseas representatives and lead the expansion of our presence in emerging markets, supporting the continued growth of our international education ecosystem. In addition, Mr Hernandez will head AIBT’s marketing and student recruitment, bringing his deep sector knowledge and networks to strengthen our vocational education provider's market positioning.

Mr Hernandez is currently part of the Strategic Advisory Team for Education of the Moros Law Group. He has also served as Honorary Consul General of the Philippines to Victoria for six years and remains actively involved in education initiatives through the Philippine-Australia Committee for Education, which he co-founded.

AI in Higher Education Symposium ANZ

The AIHE was pleased to engage with the University of Sydney–hosted AI in Higher Education Symposium ANZ 2026, delivered in a hybrid format and bringing together presenters from Australia, New Zealand, and international institutions in the United States and Spain. The symposium reflected the sector’s shared focus on the practical, ethical, and pedagogically sound use of generative AI in higher education.

AIHE was proud to have Dr Raquel Ho represent the Institute, delivering Working Out What Works: Exploring Generative AI in Teaching, Learning and Assessment. Her session examined the integration of generative AI into a first-year business communication assessment, demonstrating how careful scaffolding, transparency, and structured reflection can support learning outcomes, academic integrity, and graduate employability. The approach aligns closely with TEQSA’s emphasis on responsible AI use, academic integrity, and assurance of learning, reinforcing the importance of embedding AI thoughtfully within curriculum and assessment design.

Strengthening Indonesia–Australia

Ties at AIS

The AIS was honoured to welcome Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mangkubumi of Yogyakarta and Prof Edy Suandie Hamid, M.Ec from the Universitas Widya Mataram, a moment that beautifully reflected the international spirit of the AEG.

Our 2026 School Captain, Lithasha Karunagamage, led the assembly with an Acknowledgement of Country, followed by the Australian and Indonesian National Anthems, symbolising respect and friendship between our nations.

The highlight was hearing from our Year 12 students. Lea Ryandra Azalea Agustin shared her journey from Indonesia to AIS. Yu Shen Ariel spoke about the differences between schooling in China and her experience in Adelaide. Cris Phan reflected on his own educational pathway and growth. Their stories reminded us that AIS is united not by geography, but by ambition and opportunity.

Principal Steve Bousfield reinforced the importance of pathways and belonging within the AEG ecosystem, connecting AIS students to future study across AIBT and AIHE. Her Royal Highness and Prof Edy closed the assembly with inspiring reflections on education and leadership, strengthening Indonesia-Australia ties in a way that felt both personal and profound.

Education builds bridges. And on this day, we saw that bridge in action.
