Femili PNG signs MoU with Marie Stopes PNG to strengthen support for survivors of gender-based violence

Femili PNG receives support from Australia's new

Regional Initiative to assist survivors

On 14 January 2026 Femili PNG received additional funding support through Australia's commitment to strengthen crisis centres across the Pacific to respond to violence against women and girls. The initiative, Pacific Strong: Amplifying Action to End Violence Against Women and Girls (PAVE) will strengthen the crisis response services of Femili PNG's Goroka Case Management Centre, helping the organisation deliver increased support for survivors of child abuse and Gender Based Violence (GBV)

Ok Tedi supports fight against domestic violence through Femili PNG

Ok Tedi Mining Ltd (Ok Tedi) has reinforced its commitment to addressing domestic and family violence in Papua New Guinea by supporting Femili PNG. In a show of support, Ok Tedi purchased FemiliPNG Australia's coffee, sourced from the Western Highlands of PNG, and distirbuted it to delegates at the recent PNG Investment Week conference in Sydney, Australia. Proceeds support Femili PNG's case management centres, outreach programs and advocact efforts.

Training and Support

Counselling training extended to GBV referral network members

Continuing its close partnerships with government service providers and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Femili PNG has invested in the the professional development of frontline partners who work directly with survivors. With support from FemiliPNG Australia and Palladium via the CairnMillar Institute, Femili PNG delivered Introduction to Counselling to members of the GBV referral network to strengthen their understanding of basic counselling skills and enhance service delivery in challenging environments. Participants noted the training strengthened their professional skills and also empowered them personally, expressing appreciation for the opportunity.

Femili PNG Strengthens Staff capacity through strategic partnerships

Femili PNG knows its greatest strength are its people, and continues to invest in upskilling and professional growth through partnerships with leading institutions.

“Staff development and upskilling matter to Femili PNG because they strengthen impact and adaptability, boost morale and retention, align skills with strategic goals, elevate service quality and donor confidence, and foster a learning culture within the organisation,” said CEO Ms. Daisy Plana.

In 2024 and 2025, Femili PNG partnered with the Cairnmillar Institute, The Voice Inc. (TVI), and the Australian High Commission to support professional training for clinical, executive, adminstrative and logistics staff.

Stories of hope and change

From pain to strength: Jane* rises above

Jane walked through an abusive marraige for 14 years. She lost trust in her husband and in the systems that should have protected her. She needed immediate intervention and support, with violence affecting every aspect of her life and that of her children.

“When the police failed to act, when the court delayed, even the community allowed violence against me, my trust was broken repeatedly,” Jane said

With support from Femili PNG, Jane regained the courage, hope and strength she thought lost.

A story of strength and survival: Michell's journey

Michell* endured years of severe violence at the hands of her husband - a cycle of abuse that almost claimed her life. Hoping for companionship in a time of grief, Michell instead found herself in a controlling and abusive relationship, an environment she recounted felt like a "prison camp". Endless accusations, physical assaults and harassment caused Michell to lose her voice, her courage, and even her job.

"I felt hopeless" Michell said

With support from Femili PNG alongside other service providers Michell began her journey to recovery, healing and freedom.
