Upcoming Events

Movement Masterclass, Tuesday February 10th

Image description

Our February event is a Movement in Acting Masterclass, led by Emily Denton.

 From Emily:

“Never know what to do with your hands while acting?

This practical workshop introduces using physical movement to assist your acting in character.  We will explore how status, age, relationships and much more can be shown by your body through simple things like posture, breath, and tension.

Supportive, playful and accessible, the workshop builds confidence, physical clarity and expressive range, giving actors tools to help get into character for performance.

We will also look at intimacy work, how to communicate boundaries and feel safe flirting in character, and also how to safely stage believable fights and simple stunts!”

Emily Denton is an emerging director with a specialism in movement and character background work. She has trained in naturalistic acting and has been assistant director for several plays including Nell Gwynn (Network Theatre, 2025), Accidental Death of an Anarchist’ (STC, 2025) and Through the Bounds of Masculinity comes the Universe (Wandsworth Arts Fringe, 2024).

Her next play is A Streetcar named Desire (Network Theatre, Sept 2026).

Tuesday February 10th at 7.30 pm (doors open 7 pm).

Members Free, others £5 at the door.
Vinters Studio 2, 1b Sunnyhill Road, SW16 2UG

Set Design Masterclass, Tuesday March 10th

Image description

If you fancy having a go at designing a set for a production, or you would just like to explore the principles of set design, this event, led by Helen Mason, is for you!

This masterclass will give you the chance to design a stage set concept for a given play. By taking 1 play and 2 different theatre venues, you will explore the creative opportunities and challenges of set design. We will be considering the set design from the point of view of the actors, audience and crew, whilst taking account of health and safety and risk management.

Helen is an actor/ director with over 25 years experience of designing sets for amateur, community and fringe theatre. Trained in theatre design (London Theatre Museum) and interior design (Morley College), her set designs include staging for Harvey, Humble Boy, Pack of Lies, Yerma, The Clink, Breaking the Code and Blithe Spirit

Bring your on-stage,  off- stage and audience experience to this event for a fun evening with a practical result.

Tuesday March 10th at 7.30 pm (doors open 7 pm).

Members Free, others £5 at the door.

Events from June and Beyond

July and August are still to be confirmed, but we are keeping everything crossed for an exciting announcement soon.

September will see Streatham Shorts, led once again by Yasmin Smith, after her very successful debut last year.

In October we will be reading a script suggested by another popular director, Jo Ostrowska, which will probably be a panto, for production early next year.

With Streatham's Got Talent happening in December as always, we only have a few slots left to fill!

Come and See a Show With Us!

Enron by Lucy Prebble, at Theatre Peckham on Friday March 13th at 7.30 pm

Dulwich Players are performing Enron, by Lucy Prebble, from Wednesday March 11th to Saturday March 14th at Theatre Peckham, in the heart of sunny Peckham!

It’s 2001: As the millennium rises, a giant falls. Lucy Prebble’s explosive drama dissects the hubris at the heart of the spectacular collapse of Texan energy giant ENRON, the largest corporate scandal in history. Were ‘the smartest guys in the room’ tragic heroes, or just common crooks?

This is a darkly witty theatrical take on one of the biggest corporate scandals in history - a wild story of how greed and fraud brought down an energy giant and destroyed thousands of lives.

Pauline Kennedy, an STC member whom you may remember from Accidental Death of an Anarchist, is playing three small roles, including a woman who loses everything.

Come and see the show with us to support Pauline on Friday February 13th! Please arrange your own tickets and meet us there. For more information, please contact [email protected].

Streatham Hill Theatre Campaign Update

Image description

As you may know, the former grand-scale Streatham Hill Theatre where STC performed its first show, and several others, was purchased by a church who are applying for planning permission to turn it into a church. The Friends of Streatham Hill Theatre have been campaigning for it to be returned to use as a theatre with community access. There is a theatre company with shows and finance who wants to do this. The church has started to offer the theatre for limited community use, leading to STC’s tour back in October. It would be good to have this wonderful space available to STC again. Please check out the campaign at streathamhilltheatre.org and sign up to the Friends.
