November 2025

The Beat Goes On 🩺

Welcome back to The Pulse, your monthly look inside Middlebury Regional EMS. This month, we’re celebrating community generosity, collaboration, and preparedness — from a local fundraiser that helped us purchase lifesaving equipment, to partnerships inspiring the next generation of emergency responders. We also joined regional agencies for a major training exercise and are looking to add a new voice to our dispatch team.

Community Support Helps Fund New Patient Lifting Equipment

Our Round-Up and Yeti Cooler Fundraiser wrapped up on October 1, and we’re blown away by your generosity — together, we raised $7,066.90 to support Middlebury Regional EMS!

This year’s fundraiser helped us purchase Binder Lifts, specialized patient-handling devices that make lifting and moving patients safer for both our crews and those we serve. Each year, MREMS responds to nearly 400 fall and lift-assist calls, and these tools will help reduce strain and prevent injuries — improving safety and comfort during emergency responses across Addison County.

A huge thank-you to Aubuchon Hardware Middlebury for hosting the fundraiser and to everyone who rounded up, bought raffle tickets, or helped spread the word. Your support directly strengthens local emergency services and community education programs — and shows once again what’s possible when this community comes together.

Career Center Partnership Featured in PAHCC Newsletter

Our partnership with the Patricia A. Hannaford Career Center was recently  featured in the Center’s newsletter, “Medical Professions & MREMS Partnership Launches New Pathway at PAHCC.”  The article highlights how

MREMS and PAHCC are collaborating to give students real-world experience in emergency medicine through classroom instruction, hands-on skill sessions, and ambulance ride-alongs at our station.

For MREMS Executive Director Kate Rothwell, who completed her own EMT training at the Career Center in 2005, the partnership is about investing in Vermont’s healthcare workforce. “Recruitment and retention nationally — and in Vermont — is difficult,” Kate shared in the article. “By opening our doors to students, we’re creating a workforce pathway that keeps talent local, strengthens EMS, and gives young people a meaningful career right out of high school.”

This collaboration helps prepare the next generation of emergency responders while building lasting connections between education and community service in Addison County.

Strengthening Readiness Through Countywide MCI Training

On October 23, MREMS leadership participated in a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) tabletop exercise that brought together emergency services, law enforcement, dispatch, and healthcare partners from across Addison County.

The session focused on a simulated bus accident and challenged participants to coordinate resources, share information effectively, and make timely decisions in a complex, high-pressure scenario. These exercises are essential for improving communication and ensuring that agencies across the county can work together seamlessly when large-scale emergencies occur.

Later this month, the partners involved will conduct a full-scale live exercise to put these tabletop lessons into practice — another important step in strengthening Addison County’s readiness for any situation.

We’re Hiring: Dispatcher

MREMS is currently seeking a Dispatcher to join our team. Our dispatchers are the calm, steady voices that connect callers with critical help, coordinating resources across the county and supporting crews in the field. We’re looking for someone who can stay focused under pressure,

Communicate clearly, and take pride in serving their community. Dispatch experience is helpful but not required — we provide training for the right candidate.

If you or someone you know is interested, we encourage you to apply.
