Call for Writers

We know that it's been a busy Autumn  so far, and writers like to take their time and polish their work, but now really is the time to save those files and let them wing their way to our eager team of readers.

Feel the fear and do it anyway! Let your carefully nurtured work come to life in a quick impromptu scratch performance. This is a great way to expose your writing to the scrutiny of an audience and measure their response. If I can do it, so can you!

Please send your submissions (10 minutes maximum run-time; no extracts from longer works) to [email protected] to arrive no later than tomorrow, Tuesday 28th October. Then you can relax and enjoy Halloween!

To make our lives easier, please include on the document: your name and contact details, the title of the play and the list of characters.

Selected writers will be notified by Tuesday November 4th and should be available on the night of the workshop November 11th to introduce their piece in person.

Join us to listen, act out the pieces, give feedback and suggest staging. If you are an actor, director, stage manager or audience member we need you.

Volunteers still welcome to join our small team to co-ordinate the call for pieces, read and review them to create a short list, and run a scratch performance of each short-listed piece at the event.

Please note: entries may also be subsequently performed by STC actors, for example at our Christmas Streatham’s Got Talent event.

Tuesday November 11th at 7.30 pm (doors open 7 pm).

Members Free, others £5 at the door.
Vinters Studio 2, 1b Sunnyhill Road, SW16 2UG

Hound of the Baskervilles
This Coming Week - Don't Miss Out!

Tickets for the Hound of the Baskervilles are selling well. Don't miss out! Get yours now from the Tickets page of our Website.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s most celebrated Sherlock Holmes story gets a gloriously funny makeover, adapted for the stage by Steven Canny and John Nicholson, directed by Lizzie Hartree. This is an amateur production by arrangement with Nick Hern Books.

When Sir Charles Baskerville is found dead on his estate, with a look of terror still etched on his face, and the paw prints of a gigantic hound beside his body, the great detective Sherlock Holmes is summoned from Baker Street, with Dr Watson in tow, to unravel the mysteries surrounding his death, and investigate the ancient curse of the Hound of the Baskervilles…

Packed full of the verbal and visual ingenuity that hit comedy team Peepolykus is known for, and offering abundant opportunities for riotous comedy and slapstick, The Hound of the Baskervilles is a sublimely funny adaptation of a classic tale.

Streatham Tate Library, 63 Streatham High Road, SW16 1PN

Our tours of Streatham Hill Theatre on October 16th, by arrangement with Ruach Church, were a great success, as demonstrated by the length of the waiting list. We'd like to thank everyone who helped with the organisation and running of the tours, including representatives from:

  • Streatham Theatre Company

  • The Streatham Society
  • Lambeth Tour Guides

And last but not least, our Chair, David Harvey, who put a huge amount of effort into the organisation.

We'd also like to thank those attendees who made donations, for which we're grateful.

We are hoping that Ruach will allow us to run more tours soon.
