A Successful Hunter Trials,

and Opening Hunts Coming Up

Congratulations to all the winners of the Hunter Trials hosted by Oak Hill Farm on the 19th! We're fortunate to have access to such an amazing venue.

Unfortunately, wet weather made it necessary to cancel last Saturday's hunt. Minimum maintenance roads were barely passable and substantial damage would have been done to the landowners property.

Sloppy conditions also prevent us from exercising hounds this Wednesday. We understand cancellations are frustrating, but safety and respect for landowner property must take priority.

Coming Up...

This Saturday we will join MVH's formal opening hunt. If you haven't already, please be sure to let a master know that you intend to join so that we can give them accurate numbers. And, of course, as it is a "high holy day" among hunts, riders are expected to be well turned-out with well-groomed and braided horses.

Next Saturday, the 8th, will be our formal opening hunt at the Settlers Acre fixture (Flint Hills). Details and registration will be distributed soon.

Then, on November 11, we encourage members to participate in the Leavenworth Veterans Day Parade.

Trailer parking will be in the Leavenworth Justice Center parking lot. Plan to arrive no later than 0930. It is recommended to use 3^rd Street to access the lot. Riders will be staged into the parade between 11:30–11:45. Please contact Jim Fain with questions.

Committee Updates

Fixture Development

Efforts to secure access to larger areas of land near Easton/Winchester continue. Possibilities being explored include regaining access to property west of 251st which, combined with land owned by Mel Sadler and Lucy Hirsch (the CRP, Hogueland's), would provide sufficient acreage to drag hunt.

Activities and Membership/Recruitment

NEEDED: A chairperson for the membership/recruitment committee. The more members we have, the less likely it is that we'll have to raise dues significantly! Keep in mind that new folks won't be comparing their experience with us to what we've done in the past, and we still have plenty to offer. We'd especially like to recruit more social members. We have a couple folks on this committee, but they are also participating on other committees, so we need more members to get involved.

Staff/Hound Training

Wednesday outings will vary between mounted exercise and drag training as we work up to our first actual drag hunt. Please watch Facebook or GroupMe for last-minute changes to what is posted in the calendar. This Wednesday is canceled due to soggy ground conditions.

Receive Recognition for FLH Volunteerism

As FLH is part of the Fort Leavenworth Family, Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (FMWR) program, members of the Fort Leavenworth Hunt can record and receive recognition from Fort Leavenworth for volunteer hours spent supporting the hunt. Recording volunteer hours is an individual choice and not a requirement, but is strongly supported by the FLH Masters. Recording hours both allows for individual recognition by Fort Leavenworth FMWR and for Fort Leavenworth leadership to understand the significant time contributed by our members to make FLH successful as an organization. The guide to the right will take you through the process of registering, applying for positions, and recording your hours. Please contact Jessica Kudzia with any questions.

LAC Information -- NOTICE

Due to the government shutdown, Local Access Credentials (LACS) are not being processed. If you happened to have had a LAC approved recently and hadn't picked it up, you will not be able to as the VCC is closed. You may still obtain a temporary (24-hour) pass at the front gate. Plan for an extra 10 or 15 minutes for processing.
