Coffee & Sgwrs @ St Mary's

Saturdays 1st November & 6th December

Our regular coffee session with excellent homemade cake. As usual there is an opportunity to join Welsh speaking tables for a good old natter.

Round Byrd Evensong for All Saints

Saturday 1st November, 2.30 rehearsal, 5.00pm service - St Mary's

Round Byrd is St Mary's occasional choir that rehearses and sings a service on a single afternoon three times a year. Competent singers are welcome to signup and join us, the deal is you rehearse the notes beforehand and come along ready to polish the performance on the day. If you don't want to sing just come along at 5pm and enjoy this sumptuous music in a beautiful setting.

Wednesday Lunchtime Concert - Chase Baroque

Wednesday 5th November, 1.00pm - St Mary's Church

An extra and final concert for 2025 - We welcome back one of the founder preforming groups, Chase Baroque and greatly look forward to this event. As ever, it's free (retiring collection). Bring along your lunch or grab it from the High Street.

An Evening with Angela Harding

Saturday 8th November, 7.00pm - St Mary's

Join printmaker and illustrator Angela Harding for a talk on how she creates her iconic artwork.

Drawing inspiration from British birds and animals, Angela creates her beautiful and instantly recognisable designs. This year she has brought us four new books on the seasons, Spring Unfurled, Summer’s Hum, Falling into Autumn and Winter’s Song.

Angela will share insights into her creative process, discuss what draws her to the British countryside and how she translates her observations into her artwork.

A joint event for Rossiter Books and The Friends of St Mary’s Ross on Wye.

Book Talk: F1 Insider by Ted Kravitz

Thursday 13th November, 7.00pm - St Mary's

Ted Kravitz will share his unique view and knowledge of the past, present, and future of the world’s most glamorous, complex, and fascinating sport. With over two decades of working in, mixing with, and immersing himself throughout F1, Ted will give us an insider’s view of the inner circle of Teams, drivers and all things F1.

From Australia and Italy to China and the U.S, Ted Kravitz – hailed as an ‘icon’ and ‘one of the most high-profile voices in F1’ – is the fan’s eyes and ears in the pit, followed by millions of F1 fans eager to see what’s going on behind the scenes. His ‘Ted’s Notebook’ series is essential viewing for the fan, and his insights are fascinating, fun and accurate.

Concert: Swing from Paris

Saturday 22nd November, 7.30pm - The Venue (Hill Street)

Swing from Paris are an all-string jazz quartet, inspired by the music of the 1930s, ’40s and ’50s: from Benny Goodman, Charlie Christian, and Artie Shaw to Django Reinhardt, Stéphane Grappelli and the master of tango Astor Piazzolla.

Their Parisian-flavoured jazz and gypsy swing has been delighting audiences for over 15 years: from major jazz festivals including the Django Reinhardt Festival at Samois-sur-Seine, to the BBC’s Hairy Bikers and the opening of the award-winning Gloucester Services.

Concert: Midwinter - Orchestra of the Swan (part of St Mary's Christmas Tree Festival)

Friday 29th November - 7.00pm

Midwinter’s musical pendulum swings between the ancient and the contemporary, the religious and the secular, the familiar and the unknown. This is a tapestry of music woven from works spanning the 12th century to the present day, illustrating the richness and enduring allure of midwinter’s musical traditions. All in the rich surroundings of St Mary's Church, illuminated by 50 or more Christmas trees.

The Orchestra of the Swan performs over 45 concerts a year in collaboration with distinguished guest conductors and solo artists, bringing the music of the world’s most celebrated composers to our loyal and evolving audiences.

Michael Lunts, pianist, actor, singer and well-known comedy song entertainer delves into the archives for some classic musical and comic material from the hey-day of satire, all of it given a seasonal twist to offer a much-needed smile to the stresses of Christmas.

Concert: Ross Choral Society

Saturday 13th December - 7.30pm

Join Ross-on-Wye Choral Society for an evening of festive music at our Winter Concert Celebrates Christmas: Choral Classics and Carols, on Saturday 13th December 2025 at 7.30pm.

Under the direction of Adrian Taylor, the choir presents a programme featuring works by Bach, Brahms, Mozart, Lauridsen, Berlioz, and Bruckner—mixing timeless choral masterpieces and seasonal favourites. The evening will also include traditional carols to celebrate Christmas.

With Stephen Power at the organ and mezzo-soprano Catherine King as guest soloist, this will be a special concert to start your festive season.

Tickets £10, with free admission for students and under 18s. Early booking is recommended!

Concert: Ross Choristers

Sunday 14th December - 3.00pm - St Mary's Church

An Afternoon Christmas Concert. Tickets are £10 (children free) available from choir members or the church office (week days, 9am - 2pm). Tea and cake during the interval. Proceeds from this concert will go to St Mary's spire appeal.
