| TALK: Saving Romsey's Swifts Wednesday 19th November |
|
Tim Norris will be talking about measures being taken to attract swifts back to Romsey. Swifts are now reliant on accessing their nests through small gaps in the eaves of our homes. But as our homes are fitted with loft insulation and our fascias and soffits are repaired with uPVC they have declined by about 70% in the last 30 years. But there is good news as Swifts can easily be helped by the installation of nesting boxes. Come and hear about these amazing birds that can spend most of their lives without ever landing, and hear how you can help them. As this is likely to be a popular talk and places are limited, please book your seat by contacting Kate Allen at [email protected] with the name(s) of attendees. |

| Thank you Litter Pickers! |
|
Another successful morning tidying the regions around Romsey. 37 people joined in, and we collected 68 bags of rubbish plus a few items like broken wooden boxes, kitchen worktop, scooter and traffic cones that didn't fit into the bags. We finished with a cup of coffee at La Parisienne and a good social chat! Thank you to those of our members who helped out. Roz Fresson |

| A big "thank you" to Catherine Lee who has donated a significant amount of wine to the Society. We're very grateful that Catherine offered the wine to us, which will be used at some of our forthcoming events such as the AGM and Annual Lecture. |

| October is the month when the Warner Prize is awarded by us to Romsey Pupils in Years 7 and 8 who have created a project looking at an aspect of Romsey's history. Once again, the Mountbatten Secondary School entered projects from their Romsey Abbey and Industrial Revolution projects. Entries included a video tour of the Abbey, wonderfully researched Top Trumps Cards and a diary written by the Abbey itself. The ceremony took place in Crosfield Hall thanks to moneys bequeathed by the Warner family. More in the next magazine. |
