NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER

As the temperature outside dropped rapidly these past few weeks, our spirits at ArtVenture rose with equal intensity as we quickly inch towards our End-of-Term Group Art Show celebrations! Having completed multiple projects so far this term, we are thrilled to see how our students continue to breath life and personality into their artwork and can't wait to share it with family, friends, and the community at large on Sunday, November 30th (2-5pm).

Looking ahead into the new year, we have a few programs coming your way this winter!

  • Winter Term Art Classes - Registration into our upcoming term is now available online! This winter we will be offering classes for Senior Kindergarten to Grade 12 (running January 5 to March 28) & Adult Classes (running January 19 to March 27). We invite you to follow the link and enroll into the class that best fits your schedule. Classes tend to fill up quickly, so early registration is greatly encouraged.
  • March Break Art Camp - With art classes running through March Break this year, and many families already planning ahead, we're excited to announce that registration into our half-day Art Camp is now available. We have full-week options as well as single-day availability, and invite you to follow the link for more information about the structure of our camp, fees and payment options.
  • Art History Lecture Series - Art Historian Sonia Halpern will be back this winter to deliver her next Art Smart Lecture Series: "A Brush with the Law: Artists, Crime, and Deviance!" Running January 19 through February 23, this 6-part lecture series will explore how associations with criminal and deviant behaviours have contributed to the enduring legacies of select artists, further enhancing their fame and notoriety. Space is limited and attendees are encouraged to register early!

We hope you and your family enjoy the beautiful falling leaves and wish you a stress-free and healthy month!

Artistically Yours,

The ArtVenture Team

Masks from Around the World

World cultures have used masks for religious, social, and performative purposes throughout history. Performance masks are often used to portray characters and emotions, while festive masks are worn to commemorate holidays and honour cultural rites of passage. Using masks as our subject matter, our adult students began this term with an introduction to a wide range of value shading techniques with ink. Working on texture and tone through hatching, crosshatching, stippling and scumbling, students watched their masks transform from a two-dimensional line drawing to what appears to be a three-dimensional work of art! Below are a few samples of our students' work, and we're excited to feature nearly forty mask drawings at our upcoming art show on November 30th!

A Sneak Peek into ArtVenture's Fall Programs

As our studio runs various weekly programs throughout the school year, we continue to view our students' progress in awe and admiration. Arriving each week with renewed love and determination, we watch as students strive to reach their personal artistic best with each project presented to them. For those unable to drop by and enjoy watching this magic as it evolves in real-time, we are happy to share a glimpse into the creative process we see each week, and look forward to sharing with you their finished product at our upcoming Art Show!
