Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s most celebrated Sherlock Holmes story gets a gloriously funny makeover, adapted for the stage by Steven Canny and John Nicholson, directed by Lizzie Hartree. This is an amateur production by arrangement with Nick Hern Books.

When Sir Charles Baskerville is found dead on his estate, with a look of terror still etched on his face, and the paw prints of a gigantic hound beside his body, the great detective Sherlock Holmes is summoned from Baker Street, with Dr Watson in tow, to unravel the mysteries surrounding his death, and investigate the ancient curse of the Hound of the Baskervilles…

Packed full of the verbal and visual ingenuity that hit comedy team Peepolykus is known for, and offering abundant opportunities for riotous comedy and slapstick, The Hound of the Baskervilles is a sublimely funny adaptation of a classic tale.

Two Free Events for the Streatham Festival!

Reading of Till the Stars Come Down by Beth Steel, October 14th

Image description

Till the Stars Come Down is a warm and very funny play that has enjoyed very successful runs at the National Theatre and more recently in the West End. It is set in Mansfield, a Nottinghamshire town that often in the news as being part of Labour's 'Red Wall' and gives us a wonderful insight into Sylvia and Marek's chaotic and love-filled wedding day through the interaction of their family members. There is a good range of parts for men and women of all ages.

We are hosting this reading in the Snak Tank Cafe, in South Streatham, one minute from Arragon Gardens bus stop, on Streatham High Road. Snacks and hot and cold drinks, including alcoholic drinks, are available for purchase, but not full meals. Vegetarian and vegan snacks are available. I can recommend the cake, but it's probably not vegan!

Please note the earlier than usual start time.

Tuesday October 14th at 7 pm (doors open 6.30 pm).

FREE to all as part of the Festival

Snak Tank Cafe,  580 Streatham High Rd, London SW16 3QQ

What the Dresser Saw! A Talk by Chrissy Bright
October 17th

Image description

Chrissy Bright will share stories from her varied career as  dresser and in the wig room in the West End and in Panto.

Chrissy’s love of theatre began at the age of 15 when she joined Croydon Stagers Operatic and Dramatic Society. She was with them for 64 years, until they ceased in 2017, their last show being Sister Act at the Ashcroft Theatre in Croydon. Chrissy started working in the professional theatre aged 19, quite by chance, as a dresser, swing dresser and wig assistant, initially whilst also working full-time for ICI. She subsequently left ICI to work for Stewart Films, then The London Film School. Chrissy is also a qualified make-up artist and ran a costume hire company part-time with a partner for 8 years, which they subsequently sold. Chrissy is now retired but still runs her own wig company Bright’s Barnets, which she has run since she was 19.

Friday October 17th at 7.30 pm (doors open 7 pm).

FREE to all as part of the Streatham Festival. A licensed pay bar will be available.

Streatham Tate Library, 63 Streatham High Road, SW16 1PN

Streatham Hill Theatre Tours:
Tickets 'Sold' Out in Four Hours

We're sorry for anyone who missed out on a ticket, but demand was so much more than the limited capacity we had. We will be asking the owners, Ruach City Church,  if there can be more tours in the future.

There may be a slight chance of getting a place if there are any no shows, so if you live nearby you could try at the door on the day, but no guarantees. We cannot exceed the maximum number of 60 per tour.

Submit Your Play to Streatham Shorts on November 11th!

Deadline for Submissions October 28th!

Call for Writers

STC is proud to give local writers the opportunity to take their work from page to stage and see and hear it come to life in a quick impromptu scratch performance!

Please send your submissions (10 minutes maximum run-time; no extracts from longer works) to [email protected] to arrive no later than Tuesday 28th October. That's less than three weeks, folks!

This is a great way to expose your writing to the scrutiny of an audience and measure their response!

To make our lives easier, please include on the document: your name and contact details, the title of the play and the list of characters.

Selected writers will be notified by November 4th and should be available on the night of the workshop November 11th to introduce their piece in person.

Join us to listen, act out the pieces, give feedback and suggest staging. If you are an actor, director, stage manager or audience member we need you.

Volunteers still welcome to join our small team to co-ordinate the call for pieces, read and review them to create a short list, and run a scratch performance of each short-listed piece at the event.

Please note: entries may also be subsequently performed by STC actors, for example at our Christmas Streatham’s Got Talent event.

Tuesday November 11th at 7.30 pm (doors open 7 pm).

Members Free, others £5 at the door.
