Setting Positive Intentions for the New Year

By Lucie Tucker

Image description

We’ve made it through another year! Now with a new one approaching let’s set some positive intentions and think of ways to bring us joy. Let’s start writing these down. What would you like

to do next year? Was there anything you wanted to do this year which you couldn’t get to do?

Was there anything new and inspiring that happened this year which could be turned into a goal for next year? Write these down. Goals don’t always need to be big and time-consuming; it

is important to think of small ways to bring us joy too. This could be learning a new recipe from a cuisine you’re fond of or remembering to contact a friend occasionally or visiting an attraction not too far from home.

Let’s now transform this into a poster. Gather some paper, card, pens, collage material and anything you can colour or paint with. If you don’t have large pieces of paper or card, you can stick some A4 pieces together and create the poster as large as you want.

Write down your goals on different parts of your poster and surround the text with positive colours, simple drawings and cut-outs from magazines if you have any. When your poster is finished, proudly stick it up on a wall or somewhere where you will see it regularly as a reminder of what you would like to achieve next year.

About our Monthly Creative Prompts

These creative exercises were thoughtfully designed by our very own Art4Space staff and are practiced daily at our Community Arts Centre. Our tutors want to share them with you to encourage creative holistic wellness for everyone.

Our exercises are designed to be simple and can be done anywhere whether you’re at home, at your place of work, in the park, on a train etc.

You’ll only need some basic art materials, and you could keep a sketchbook or notebook specifically for your creative exercises to help keep them together and easily accessible.

We hope that these exercises will encourage self-expression and help stimulate your creative mind. So, sit back, relax, don’t overthink it and let your creative responses take you away…
