Inspiration to Ponder

"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life; it turns what we have into enough, and more."

– Melody Beattie

Season's Greetings

Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Van Don Williams,

Deputy Chief of Chaplains

On behalf of the Chief of Chaplains and the entire national staff of the Chaplain Corps, I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude for your phenomenal dedication, and to send a heartfelt thank you for everything you’ve done this year.

Your selfless commitment has been a guiding light to our organization this year. Because of you, we have made a difference in the local units, wings, regions and communities we serve.

The CAP organization is more than just a place to volunteer; it’s a community, it’s a family, and that’s entirely because of members like you.

Your “Ministry of Presence” and ability to promote Spiritual Fitness - those beliefs, principles, and values needed to develop a fulfilling life with quality service - are the best gifts we could convey to others.

As we enter another Winter holiday season, I meditate on the goodness of God! Waking up in our right mind, with the breath of life flowing thru our veins, and the ability to help those less fortunate, makes me grateful in this season of giving.

Our National CDI, Colonel Larry Trick, shared with me a story during a previous Winter holiday season. “During the fuel crisis of the early 70’s, my local CAP squadron collected and delivered 'Toys for Tots' when the local Marine Reserve unit could not get fuel. We visited an orphanage on Christmas Eve, and those kids were so excited!” Let us continue to give to others in the ways that shows faith, hope and love. May your holidays be bright and your New Year prosperous. We look forward to achieving even greater things together in the coming year.

May God bless you and keep you and your family safe during this holiday season!

Chanukah: Light, Freedom,

and the Chaplain Corps Mission

Chaplain (Maj.) Dovid Grossman,

Deputy Chief of Plans & Programs (CAP/HCX)

Image description

The Jewish festival of rededication reflects our commitment to spiritual resilience and religious liberty. As Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi famously said, "A little bit of light dispels a great deal of darkness" (Chabad.org).

Chanukah—dedication—commemorates the rededication of the Holy Temple after the Maccabees reclaimed both their homeland and their freedom to worship

G-d without interference. The battle of Chanukah was fundamentally a struggle for spiritual liberty and the right to live according to one’s faith and traditions. That core message speaks directly to the mission of the Civil Air Patrol Chaplain Corps, which stands as a guardian of every member’s constitutional right to free religious expression.

Code of Ethics for All Members of the

Civil Air Patrol Chaplain Corps

As part of their annual membership renewal, every CAP member reaffirms their oath to Civil Air Patrol. In addition, all Chaplain Corps bind themselves to a very high ethical standard of conduct. Each of us should regularly review the Chaplain Corps Code of Ethics and make it our own. We are responsible for holding ourselves and each other accountable for the embodiment of this ethical code in our ministry of presence and service.

The Code of Ethics are part of CAP Pamphlet 40-80, pages 5-7

Need to Know

Chaplain Corps Education and Training:

A New Division Bringing Unity

Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Tim Miner,

Chief of Education & Training (CAP/HCE)

One year ago, the CAP Chaplain Corps stood up a new division dedicated to Chaplain Corps education and training, which is known by its three-letter designation of HCE. This was in addition to the already-existing divisions of HCT (Technology), HCP (Personnel), and HCX (Plans & Programs). This effort combines three separate programs that both Chaplains and Character Development Instructors use for their professional, emergency service skills, and auxiliary service. The goal of HCE is to unify and standardize all training and education programs into a single entity which will set the standard for the nation’s premier volunteer chaplaincy. The division also connects the Corps’ programming to other allied training and education efforts in CAP, the Department of the Air Force (DAF), and a variety of agencies in disaster services.
