My INsnyde Take...Know Your Zip Code, Not Just Your Talking Points

The biggest takeaway from Tuesday’s elections isn’t that Democrats should all start quoting Zohran Mamdani or start trimming their edges like Mikie Sherrill and Abigail Spanberger — it’s that politics is local, and you can’t sell Brooklyn socialism to Bedford. Across the board, winning Democrats focused on one universal issue: affordability. Whether it was rent in Queens or groceries in Kokomo, people are fed up with the price of living outpacing their paychecks. Every winning candidate, from the loud progressives to the pragmatic moderates, spoke directly to that pain.

But let’s get one thing straight — Mamdani wouldn’t survive a month in the Jersey burbs, and Sherrill would be laughed off the stage in a Queens rent rally. Indiana’s brand of blue needs to look more like Spanberger’s kitchen-table pragmatism and less like a DSA TikTok feed. Sure, a Mamdani-style message can win in Indy or Bloomington, where the Wi-Fi is strong and everyone composts. But if Democrats want to crack open the rest of Indiana, they’ll need less revolution and more results — because Hoosiers don’t want slogans; they want sanity.

It was a rare sight: two of Indiana’s favorite political legends, Evan Bayh and Joe Donnelly, joined Gary Snyder to remind Democrats what winning used to look like before the party decided to fight Twitter wars instead of elections. Banks Says Trump Right to Push Senate to End Filibuster

And here’s the kicker: Banks warns that if Republicans don’t bulldoze their agenda now—tariffs, trade wars, court-packing and all—they might lose control in the midterms. So apparently the key to preserving democracy is ending the very procedural guards meant to protect it.

Those Election Results
