Emily and I began working together in June 2024, after she had made the brave decision to make a career change and leave classroom teaching. She wanted to switch from direct education roles to a role in account management, which would allow her to use her organizational and communication skills without the overstimulation of a classroom. We updated her resume to better reflect all her transferable skills and got to work on a plan of action for roles to target. (We both love a plan!)
By early fall 2024, Emily had landed her first role outside of teaching, which was a big step that gave her valuable experience in a new environment. While the position didn’t check every box, she was grateful for the opportunity to grow and begin building her new path. A few months later, a company she’d previously interviewed with reached back out. She had left a strong impression and they remembered her when a new opening came up. It wasn’t an easy choice and she weighed the decision carefully, but after some reflection, she made the leap!
“It’s like stepping stones,” Emily shared. “I went from teaching to a better job, and when I wasn’t even looking, I had an even better opportunity I was excited about. You never know what’s on the horizon.”
Now, Emily works as a Customer Success Manager at Niche, an education-focused company that blends her past experience and passion for education with new creative challenges. She also credits her success to leaning into community and connection, which is something I talk about often in coaching sessions. Emily says it best:
“Lean on your community, lean on social media. I told people I was looking for a job, and I had people I hadn’t talked to in years offer to connect me. Being vulnerable is hard, but I definitely think that really helped.”
It’s been such a privilege to be part of Emily’s journey. As one of my early clients, her success feels especially meaningful and I couldn’t be more excited for her!
"Abbie gave me the tools and the confidence I needed for a successful career change in a competitive market. I couldn't have done it without her!" - Emily B.
