| Please help us raise €300 for Coco’s ear surgery
|
|
Our elderly tortie resident, Coco, has recently undergone a complex surgical procedure known as a total ear canal ablation (TECA). Coco had been suffering from ear problems for a while and, despite treatment, the condition persisted to the point where she had developed balance problems, falling over while walking. And we knew she was in pain and discomfort. But the surgery is complex and recovery is painful, so it wasn’t an easy decision to make, particularly given Coco’s age (we think she is between 10 and 15 years old). But having tried all other options, we knew we had to give this lovely lady a chance to live out her retirement without pain and discomfort. We’re happy to report that the surgery went well and after a post-op stay in the clinic, Coco is now continuing her recovery back home at Syros Cats where our volunteers are giving her everything she needs, plus lots of TLC, of course. |

Coco is now free of medication and the post-surgery cone, so things are looking good for our tortie! The surgery was quite costly and our bill currently stands at around €300. If anyone would like to give a donation to help with our costs, please follow our donations link |

| Our hospital wing has been kept busy recently as a few of our residents, and one of our street cats, have needed veterinary care. Dougan, Romeo, Janusz and Mother One have all been successfully treated and are on the road to recovery. Click through below to read their stories. |

| We continue to do as much TNR as we possibly can, given our resources and manpower. So far this year, 212 cats from around the island have been sterilised and returned to their colonies. Of these, 32 were paid for by Demos (the Syros local authorities), 25 were kindly donated by the Veterinary Clinic of the Cyclades and the rest covered by individual donations. As ever, we are hugely grateful to our local cat guardians, who work with us to ensure everything goes as smoothly as possible, and to our generous supporters whose donations are helping us transform the lives of strays. Our TNR work will continue during the summer months, but as our other workload increases during this time, we will be focusing more on our local area of Kini and will resume our activities across Syros in the quieter months. We’d welcome more donations to help us keep up the pace! Please use the link below to help us. |

| Supporter News - Thank You Ali!
|
|
Our young supporter Ali has raised over €170 by selling bracelets she’s made. It’s such a lovely thing to do and we thank you so much for thinking of us. Ali and her sister Elle and mum Christine have also rescued a cat that they hope eventually to adopt, and have also been giving eye drops to street kittens. Thank you all for being so proactive and ready and willing to help the street cats of Syros. |

We are truly grateful to the family and clients of the late Rob Baker, who recently sent us a generous donation of $3400 which has been raised in his memory. |

Rob had visited Syros only once, but the street cats he encountered during his stay touched his heart, and he expressed a wish to make a donation to help improve their lives. Sadly, he never returned to Syros to do so in person, but thanks to kind-hearted individuals, his wish has come true. Click below for more on Rob’s life and work, the fundraiser and how we are putting the money to good use. |

| Sadly we lost another two of our resident cats in February this year, Skoupy and Dennis. Though with us only a relatively short time, Skoupy since December 2022 and Dennis just three short months, they both left indelible paw prints on the hearts of all who met them. And we miss them. Click below for our tributes to them. |

| Patrick, Empusa, Gimli and Bluey were born to a feral mum. We kept the little family together in a unit at Syros Cats to let mum care for her offspring in safety. Mum even graciously accepted orphan kitten Dora into her brood! With all 5 kittens now weaned, we decided to sterilise and release mum back to her colony, as living in a domestic environment was becoming stressful for her. We are happy to report that she’s doing splendidly, living the life she prefers in the territory she knows. We will continue to monitor her. The kittens are still shy, but are doing well, have just turned eight weeks old and have had their first vaccinations. Bluey has already been adopted locally through our partner We Live Together, but our little quartet will be with us a while longer yet, so in the meantime, they would love some sponsors! |

We were truly overwhelmed by the huge number of people who applied to be volunteers in 2025. Our humble thanks to you and to all our volunteers past and present. We are pleased to announce that applications for 2026 will be opening in September! Please keep an eye on our social media pages for the latest updates. Have a good summer everyone! |
