How To Listen To Our Radio Docs

As we've announced previously, the Center is happy to announce that two radio documentaries relevant to our collective Helene experience will be available to listen to this week and next.

This Tuesday, September 16 at 9 PM NPR station, WNCW 88.7 will air our radio documentary Come Hell or High Water, Remembering the Great Flood of 1916.  For those without a radio, you can livestream the program at www.wncw.org

The following Tuesday, September 23 at 9PM our brand new radio documentary, FROM HELENE AND BACK -- Nature's Wake-up Call will have its NPR debut.

Both programs can be heard over the air on WNCW 88.7 FM or online at www.wncw.org.

Why This Is Important!

Helene had a catastrophic impact on WNC, however this isn't the first time major floods and landslides have affected our mountains. Nor will it be the last. What have we learned from our collective Helene experience and nature's lessons to help us better prepare to weather future storms?

In my view, this is WHY we study history.  Not just to remember, to mourn, to grieve, to commemorate.  But to LEARN.

Future generations are depending upon us to do things differently or we subject them to the same horrors we experienced.  That's why I've included Helene survivors, Cherokee elders, long term residents and experts in the field of Meteorology, Emergency Management, Landslides, Floods, Public Policy and Resilience in the program.
