“We are one Chaplain Corps, with one purpose, to be ready.”

By Ch. (Col.) John F. Reutemann III, 22nd Chief of Chaplains

Civil Air Patrol’s Cadet Officer School Marks 55 Years of Excellence.

Civil Air Patrol’s Cadet Officer School (COS) welcomed 120 of the nation’s top cadets at Air University, Maxwell AFB, July 18–27, celebrating its 55th year of premier leadership training. This is the third year that our Chaplain Corps has supported this program due to the advocacy of Chaplain (Major) Dovid Grossman.

This National Cadet Special Activity program emphasizes the transformational shift from tactical to strategic leadership, preparing cadets for higher levels of responsibility. Ch Maj Dovid Grossman was responsible for the development and delivery of the ethical leadership curriculum, equipping cadets to apply moral values in complex leadership challenges. Distinguished guest speakers included Chaplain (Maj. Gen.) Steven Schaick, USAF Chief of Chaplains (retired), and Dr. Scott Englund of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, underscoring the school’s focus on the transformational shift from tactical to strategic leadership.

Need To Know

Strengthen The Corps

The gift and talent pool in the Chaplain Corps is deeper than the information available on e-services. The breath and depth of education, training, and experience provides an invaluable resource for our corps. Help us understand the breadth and depth of our team by completing this short online survey. The results will allow us to tap our resources and leverage them for the benefit of all our members and those we assist.  This survey is for Chaplain Corps members only and requires an hc.cap.gov email address.  Please contact [email protected] if you need one.

A Perspective

Build a Barrier or Build a Bridge: A Character Development Perspective for Civil Air Patrol

by Captain Stephen D Beal CDI MAR-NC-057

Every day in Civil Air Patrol, we make countless small choices that either bring us together or push us apart.  Read the full article here.

Back to Basics

First Impressions

When Chaplains prepare for worship services or Character Development Specialists prepare to assist with some special activity outside of CAP, there is a conscious effort to present oneself by appropriately dressing for the occasion. Clean and neatly dressed, our dress makes a statement and the importance of the occasion. When putting on any variation of our CAP uniform, the same standard applies. Why? Because it speaks of the pride we have for who we are and in our organization. The ability to wear our uniform is a privilege and not a right; how it is worn sends a message, not only to members, but also to the public that we interact with. As the summer ends and our squadrons reform, the Chaplain Corps can lead from the front by modeling the proper wear (cleaned, pressed, shoes shined) of the uniform to cadets and adult members. By modeling proper uniform wear, we can inspire pride in self and our organization.

Please review the latest CAPR 39-1 (rev. 16 April 2025).

For Chaplains and Character Development Instructors Retiring From Civil Air Patrol

Are you retiring? For chaplains and CDIs with twenty years of service or more there is a Chaplain Corps regulation guiding the recognition of their ministry to CAP. It is a separate process from retiring as a member of CAP. Use this link to the guide.
