“Everything in the universe moves, the Earth around the sun, the sun within the galaxy, the galaxies in clusters, all cycling around each other. There is no centre, no place where we can say, ‘Here it all began, here it all stops.’ Yet the centre exists, everywhere, for in a dance, the dancer does not move around any arbitrary point in space, but rather the dance carries its own sense of unity focused around a constantly moving, constantly peaceful centre. Nothing and everything all at once.”
- Rachel Pollack
Through the end of June, I am spending time in the place I was born. Being with this season here carries memories of my childhood as well as a reconnection with those powerful things I experienced when I was young. The parade of blossoming and growth unfolding on a daily basis takes all one's attention. It takes one's breath to be present within this unfolding. Every day there are a hundred discoveries; dots connected when wondering about a strange dome of grasses tucked against a young plant in a sea of new growth. Witnessing the field swallow nesting her egg clutch, watching me warily as I come and go. She has stopped bolting every time I open my front door. I speak calmly to her.
The luminosity of time sweeps all of us up into a dance. We waltz with our intentions, our goals; the process of what to do next to get where we wish to go. At the Shed, the sprawl of the season makes the variable centers of the swirl visible. Every day there is the presence of the constantly peaceful center.
Central Wisconsin had a cold snap in May. Frost warnings were issued for much of the state. The Shed is cold in the morning - I build a fire to make it comfortable. The days unfold. It is a gift to be here, in this everything all at once.
