In a rapidly changing media landscape, THR advocates often face an uphill battle to communicate their lived experiences and to share the rapidly growing science supporting the efficacy of safer nicotine products. But in these two brand new workshops for GFN25, tobacco harm reduction experts will combat some of the prevailing issues that advocates face, and concentrate on the established and emerging evidence surrounding safer nicotine products.

In the GFN25 workshop “Mobilising Consumer Voices for Safer Nicotine Alternatives”, Maria Papaioannoy will help attendees build a repertoire of low-cost and high-impact strategies that can be used to spread awareness about tobacco harm reduction and safer nicotine products. Guided by real-world knowledge gathered from successful advocacy campaigns and consumer-focused initiatives, this workshop will equip advocates with the necessary skills to sway hearts and minds in the THR debate.

Flavours have been a focal point of the debate about safer nicotine products, with calls to ban or restrict flavours often receiving significant coverage. In their GFN25 workshop ‘A fresh look at flavours’, Ian Fearon and Christopher Russell will however highlight the growing evidence supporting the use of flavours in smoking cessation, and explore changing attitudes to these products and the challenges regulators face in creating risk-proportionate legislation. Featuring Matthew Holman, Elizabeth Becker and Autumn Bernal, this is set to be a fascinating discussion! Both workshops will run in parallel on Friday 20 June, so you’ll have to make a decision - which will you choose?
