A1 - Social and health professions in Europe:

Discovering the Feldenkrais Practitioner

The report of the survey conducted in 2024 among Feldenkrais practitioners in Europe has been published.

The research collected data to understand the current state of the Feldenkrais practice in Europe – showing strengths and areas for improvement.

How does this role fit into the employment landscape of the European countries that participated in the survey?

What are its strengths in terms of relationships with individuals and other professionals with whom it could potentially collaborate?

To what extent are current Feldenkrais practitioners able to work in an interdisciplinary manner and realise the potential of this method in their context?

These are some of the questions that the project has asked itself and which the data collected seeks to shed light on. The Feldenkrais Method has great potential, but faces challenges in terms of professionalisation, business development and integration into broader contexts of health support and personal development.

📊 776 questionnaires were collected from Italy, Germany, France, Switzerland, UK, Spain, Austria, the Netherlands and other European countries.

👉 Results available in ENG and FR; ITA is coming soon; DE is still in preparation.

International Survey

A2 - Exploring the world and the opportunities of Feldenkrais

The second pan-European online event "Bridging Disciplines to Improve Care Processes in Chronic Pain and Fibromyalgia: A Feldenkrais4Life Pilot" will take place on 30 September 2025, from 12:30 to 14:00 (CET).

It will be an opportunity to foster interdisciplinary dialogue on using the Feldenkrais Method in health and care, with a focus on chronic pain and fibromyalgia, based on pilot programs in Italy and Germany.

🔜 Registration and access details coming soon.

A3 - Bringing a profession into the spotlight

At European level, the first milestone of the project was the inclusion of the item ‘Awareness through movement courses’ in the international classification of economic activities NACE rev2.1, which all European countries refer to. This now makes activities related to the Method potentially visible in any country where Feldenkrais Teachers practise here in Europe.

However, at the country system level, visibility is only effective when this figure or practice is operationally included in recognised professional directories.

Than

ks to the project, Italy has already followed up with the inclusion of subcode 85.59.91 “Conscious education courses through movement” in the ATECO2025 economic classification, which is valid for national statistical analyses. The code has been active since 1 April this year.

In England, a long process of national and international consultation led to the proposal of a national occupational standard (NOS) that was just approved in February by Skills for Health, a non-profit organisation for the development of an optimal and sustainable healthcare workforce in the United Kingdom. This result allows the Feldenkrais Guild UK to proceed with its application to the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) to include the profession of Feldenkrais Teacher in the register of healthcare practitioners.

Following the result achieved in 2024 with the NACE and ISTAT2025 economic classifications, the Feldenkrais4Life project is now committed to continuing a process similar to that taking place in Great Britain for the remainder of its duration.

A4 - Chronic pain, Fibromyalgia and Feldenkrais

On 28 April, the Italian pilot course began:
CARING FOR FIBROMYALGIA PATIENTS: BUILDING A BRIDGE BETWEEN MEDICINE AND THE FELDENKRAIS® METHOD

A pilot course of the Feldenkrais4Life project, in which for the first time doctors and teachers of the Feldenkrais Method are involved in a multidisciplinary course with the aim of finding common languages and opportunities for exchange and synergy to improve the intervention of patients affected by fibromyalgia by building a course of care and specific treatment for each person.

A6 - Testimonials

Curious about how the Feldenkrais Method could help people with fibromyalgia?

While research is still emerging, more and more studies are starting to explore its potential.

The Feldenkrais Research Journal published a case study:

🎯 Aim: to describe the effects of a Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement (ATM) sequence on people with fibromyalgia.
📈 Outcome: The method shows potential as a complementary approach alongside physiotherapy.
