A new venture for Hulabhaig. This month we are trying our hand at a bit of online selling. Although Hulabhaig is predominantly about collecting island contemporary art, we also support our island artists, and what better way to do this than by promoting and helping to find buyers for their new and recent creations. This month we are showcasing work of Sandra Kennedy in an online 'cloud' exhibition. As An Eilean Seo (Of This Island) is our latest 'cloud' collection of new and recent works including eight artworks which you can buy for your own collection. See below. Also we have two new articles on recent Island exhibitions, one for Danielle Macleod at Grinneabhat entitled Gorm an Fheòir / The Blue of the Grass and a personal emotional visit for me to Baile na Cille church for Sinuous Coastline an exhibition of works from David Knight and Margaret Uttley. |

Danielle Macleod Grinneabhat, North Bragar, Isle of Lewis. 2 June - 29 August 2025. |
|
Gorm an Fheòir – The Blue of the Grass is a body of work created by Danielle Macleod as a result of receiving the Harry Kerr Photography Bursary in 2024. What began as a curiosity in identifying the plants around her home and understanding their traditional medicinal uses gradually evolved into an exploration of their potential in botanical toning within the cyanotype process. The book Healing Threads by Mary Beith, with its comprehensive history of traditional medicines in the Highlands & Islands, was instrumental in guiding the research phase of this project. image: Adharcan - courtesy of the artist. |

| The Hulabhaig Collection is a small but growing collection of Island Contemporary Art. My aim as curator, it is to reach out to artists whose work is very much ‘of these islands’. I hope to meet artists, discuss ideas, influences, explore contemporary issues as delivered though island visual art and follow up with further research to document and share my findings.
And on the way maybe acquire some great artworks for the collection.
