From North Carolina to the UN: Meet our 2025-2026 Leadership Scholars

Celebrating the extraordinary WomenNC Juanita Bryant Local-to-Global Leadership Scholars selected to represent North Carolina at the 70th UN Commission on the Status of Women.

The applications for the 2025-2026 Scholars Leadership Program were due on April 4, 2025. From those who applied, four incredible young women were chosen to join this year's cohort. 



Over the next year, two students from Duke, one from NC Central, and one from NC State will research gender inequality and present their research at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70).

Event Recap: Youth Ambassadors of Service Impact Initiatives

Over the past year, WomenNC has been partnered with Youth Ambassadors of Service, a youth-led nonprofit organization that mobilizes high school students by teaching them how to execute community service projects and connecting them to nonprofits through internships, and serves as an advocate for the nonprofit sector to promote the welfare of the citizens of the State of North Carolina. Three incredible high school students from Cary Academy, Panther Creek High School, and Green Level High School completed projects for WomenNC, with the culmination of their internships being an impact initiative, which raised awareness for WomenNC and gender inequality in North Carolina. 

Bloom Bar Fundraiser



Divya Kothapalli, a YAS intern from Panther Creek High School, organized a fundraising event where attendees could make their own bouquet while learning about gender inequalities. 



Divya raised over $1000 for WomenNC.

Women's Health Month Panel 



Sandhya Vijay, a YAS intern from Green Level High School, organized a panel in celebration of Women's Health Month. This panel focused on careers in the health sphere, as well as how we can address barriers to access and inequities women face in healthcare.

Empowering Women Panel 



Kendall Clodfelter, a YAS intern from Cary Academy, organized a panel focused on challenges women face in the workplace. Students were able to ask questions about career paths, self-care, work-life balance, and for advice on career planning.
