Evaluating WHO science at #GFN25

We’re back again to announce a very special GFN25 panel which will forensically examine some of the science at the centre of the World Health Organisation nicotine messaging. In social media posts, official speeches, press releases and memorandums the WHO has repeatedly made claims which appear to contradict the evidence available, and which conflict with statements made by reputable public health institutions. But simply condemning the WHO’s science on tobacco harm reduction is not going to shift the dial. In this panel titled “Evaluating WHO Tobacco Harm Reduction Science”, we’ve gathered together several top tobacco harm reduction (THR) scientists and observers to investigate the WHO’s science on THR, and address the organisation’s concerns, bringing objectivity and evidence to bear on the discussions.

This session will be hosted by Clive Bates, a prominent public health consultant and former Director of ASH UK. Joining Clive are a group of seasoned experts in THR science: Roberto Sussman, a research scientist and debunker of flawed science; Summer Hanna, Head of Science Regulation at BAT; Riccardo Polosa, head of the Center of Excellence for Accelerating Harm Reduction in Italy; and Thomas Nahde, Global Head of Harm Reduction & Engagement at Imperial Brands.
