 Board Member Highlight:  Michael Palermo

SMFPI Board Members

For this month’s Board Member Highlight, we are excited to feature

Michael Palermo, SMFPI Board Treasurer

How do you like to spend your time when you're not working with SMFPI? Where do you work?

I have been serving as an Assistant Branch Manager at ESL Federal Credit Union’s Merchants Walk branch for the past 3.5 years. In my free time, I enjoy reading, biking, hiking, and traveling. Additionally, I have been a dedicated volunteer with my local fire department for the past 23 years.

What are the biggest challenges facing families in Rochester, and how is SMFPI addressing them?

It's wonderful to hear about the positive impact that SMFPI is having in Rochester! By bringing speakers and programs that emphasize Christian values, they are not only helping individuals embrace their faith but also fostering stronger family bonds. This, in turn, contributes to a more resilient and united community.

How long have you been involved with SMFPI?

I joined the Board in January 2025 as Treasurer.

What inspired you to join the board of St. Michael’s Family Protection Institute?

My wife, Bernadette, has collaborated with Angela for the past few years, and I've witnessed firsthand the Kristans' unwavering commitment in developing Restore Health & Wellness in Rochester. It's rare to be part of a group dedicated to establishing a family-centered, faith informed medical practice in today's environment. I'm honored to contribute to help realize this vision that leaves a lasting legacy for the community, offering healthcare that bridges the spiritual gaps left by the constraints of Rochester's legacy systems.

We are grateful for Michael's leadership, passion, and dedication to SMFPI. Stay tuned for more Board Member Highlights in upcoming newsletters!

Podcast Mike Kristan 3rd Sunday of Lent

Extraordinary Time is a podcast from the Catholic Courier that explores the sacred and transformative seasons of the Church’s liturgical calendar. Their inaugural season focuses on Lent 2025, bringing insightful scriptural reflections from clergy and faithful voices across the Diocese of Rochester.

Prepare for the Third Sunday of Lent with Deacon Michael Kristan as he leads a lectio divina-style meditation on the appointed readings for the day.

He invites us to immerse ourselves in the story of Moses and the burning bush, the merciful nature of God revealed in the Psalms, and the call to repentance found in Jesus’ parable of the fig tree. Through prayerful meditation, Deacon Mike reminds us of God’s name, presence, and personal invitation to transformation this Lent.

Grow in Virtue This Lent with Chesterton

Image description

Lent is a time for spiritual renewal, and what better way to embark on this journey than by rediscovering virtue as an adventure? G.K. Chesterton reminds us that true virtue is not merely the avoidance of vice but a life filled with joy and purpose.

Join the Society of G.K. Chesterton this Lent as we explore a different virtue each week—reflecting on the Cardinal virtues (Temperance, Justice, Fortitude, and Prudence) and the Theological virtues (Faith, Hope, and Love). Through Chesterton’s wisdom, scripture, and traditional symbols, we will deepen our understanding of holiness in everyday life.
