Campaign News

25 April 2025

I received an unsolicited offer to help me collect ballot petitions.

This week, I received an unsolicited offer by someone apparently connected to the reëlection ballot line reported to be used by Mayor Eric Adams (D-N.Y.C.). The offer was to help me collect ballot petition signatures by putting me on the Mayor's independent ballot line with other candidates. This is what the draft ballot petition looked like, errors and all ⤵️ Why would Mayor Adams offer to help me when I've sued him over the unlawful RAD/PACT privatisation and demolition of NYCHA public housing in Chelsea ?

For six years and across two mayoral administrations, I've organised NYCHA residents to oppose privatisation and demolition.

This unsolicited offer raises serious ethical and legal questions, particularly since my campaign highlights allegations of corruption by City Hall.

Earlier this month, I joined six NYCHA public housing residents in an Article 78 Petition, asking a judge to review the decision by Agency and City officials to move forward the RAD/PACT privatisation and demolition of Fulton Houses and Elliott-Chelsea outside of the ULURP Process. Our lawsuit also asks a judge to conduct a City Charter § 1109 preliminary judicial inquiry into why Agency and City officials appeared to give the RAD/PACT Landlord an exception to ULURP.

The unsolicited offer to put me on ballot petitions on the Mayor's independent ballot line is highly unusual, especially since I'm a Plaintiff in a lawsuit that directly challenges Mayor Adams' administrative actions. This could be perceived as an attempted payoff or an effort to neutralise my opposition, particularly since the apparent conflict of interest comes at a timing that follows the filing of the lawsuit by a few weeks. Because our lawsuit exposes the Mayor's political and legal vulnerabilities, could the Mayor be engaged in seeking another quid pro quo arrangement, unethical inducement, or attempted bribe ?

Collecting petition signatures is like pulling teeth, and this difficulty explains why the public is disconnected from Government corruption and fascism.

As I speak with District 3 residents, I get a lot of, "Not right now," "I'm in a rush," or "I'm not registered to vote," even though Mayor Adams and the City Council plunged or permitted to plunge the City of New York under wave after wave of corruption scandals. Even in the face of fascism, District 3 residents are uninterested in having a conversation about Government reform, checks and balances, or the crisis in the judiciary. It's sick that Mayor Adams, his team, or other operatives would seize on the absolutely, real-world difficulties of ballot petition collection as a prétexte to make this offer.

As a power broker, Mayor Adams conducts the City's business like a political boss, always seeking to : neutralise threats to his power, including to his alleged abuse of discretion ; use his position of power to implement a political strategy that benefits him ; and do damage control, when necessary. To me, this seems like an attempted payoff. There is : an apparent conflict of interest (the Article 78 Petition), no clear benefit to Mayor Adams to offer to put me on his ballot line (except to serve his interests in neutralising a threat), and a pattern of alleged quid pro quo activity on his behalf.

I rejected this offer.

I did not consent to this offer, because I can't be bought, or bossed.
