              EUROPEAN PROJECTS

              TRAINeng-PDP project results

The Erasmus+ TRAINeng-PDP project, a collaboration between KU Leuven, LUT, and TU Dublin, gladly supported by SEFI as associate partner, has come to an end. The project aimed to prepare students for lifelong learning by supporting their personal development process, while also motivating and training lecturers to actively engage in this journey. Through research on educational interventions, implementation of interventions across partner institutions, and the creation of a practical toolkit for, the project provided resources to help engineering educators foster student growth.

IACEE - INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR CONTINUING ENGINEERING EDUCATION

The Spring Symposium of IACEE (3-4 April 2025) which took place at Purdue University, USA, had a strong in-person SEFI representation with many members of the CEE/LLL SIG in person (Chris Smith, Ellen Sjoer, Hans Ulrich-Heiss, Katriina Schrey, and Patricia Caratozzolo). Patricia and Chris were invited to present on the development of a taxonomy for Continuing Engineering Education (see Frontiers in Education paper and SEFI 2024 proceedings p2681). The session engaged international colleagues by getting further inputs around important CEE terms from the assembled international experts, to refine and further validate the CEE taxonomy. The CEE taxonomy team will use this to inform the development and refinement of the taxonomy.

                          EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY ASSOCIATION

Skills and education for Europe’s competitiveness

The European University Association highlights the urgent need for a strategic and enduring approach to enhance Europe’s lifelong and continued learning capacities. As such, EUA calls for the establishment of a flagship EU initiative for lifelong learning, which would align with Europe’s economic and societal needs and ongoing transformations, be attractive for European and international talent and send a strong, positive signal towards the EU’s global partners and competitors. Invest more in European Universities alliances, says draft Parliament report

European Universities alliances set up under the Erasmus+ programme should receive more money from the EU, according to a draft report prepared for the European Parliament’s culture and education committee. The non-legislative draft report, prepared by Laurence Farreng from the Renew Europe Group, highlights the need to strengthen existing alliances before expanding the initiative any further.
