FIREWISE Leaders Communication Training

Image description

Over 60 community leaders gathered together for our first neighbor-to-neighbor communication training. Wildfire Bingo was a crowd favorite with the winner, Charlene, receiving 1/16th inch vent screening. At the end of the interactive event, our team handed out FIREWISE door-hangers. You can request more door-hangers via our Wildfire Programs Request Form. Overall the event was very successful!

Our Executive Director Pauline Allen spoke at the recent Surfrider LA chapter meeting on a panel about wildfire resilience. Panelists were asked about reflections after the recent fires and how to create more fire-resilient homes while simultaneously supporting local biodiversity. If you would like to have one of our team speak at your upcoming event, please fill out our Wildfire Programs Request Form. We can speak on topics such as home hardening, defensible space, Firewise, and more.

Learn & (Pile) Burn

Image description

In February our Director of Programs Danielle Picciano and ED Pauline Allen attended the Los Angeles Prescribed Burn Association’s first Basic 32 Firefighter training. This past week both Danielle and Pauline attended a “Learn and Burn” pile burning workshop hosted by SLO-PBA, along with other LA-PBA members. This effort provided an opportunity for individuals to gain experience and help reduce fuels for conservation lands.
