Black History in Indiana

As we continue to celebrate Black History Month, I am asking that you consider visiting some of the historic sites in Indiana that highlight the great diversity of our state:

Indiana State Museum, Indianapolis (Marion County)

We were fortunate to help fund and produce Indiana Trailblazers, an Emmy-nominated compelling two-part documentary produced by WFYI Public Media in partnership with Clover Lane Media. It highlights the significant contributions of African Americans in Indiana and their impact on the state's civil rights movement. The documentary features stories of heroes who fought for justice and equality, exploring pivotal events and issues that shaped the African-American community in Indiana before, during, and after the Civil Rights Movement. It's a powerful testament to the resilience and determination of those who paved the way for a more just society. You can view the documentary by going to: pbs.org/show/indiana-trailblazers. The documentary is also shown at the Indiana State Museum's Legacy Center each day.

I wanted to inform you of these small contributions that have been made to preserve the history of Blacks in Indiana. Our state's diversity cannot be denied...it is part of our proud history. Please feel free to contact me at [email protected].
