It is common to come back from Burning Man and feel overwhelmed by everything you saw and experienced. Only to see the photos of your friends or hear them talking later of all the art that you actually did not stumble upon and missed. You may find yourself wondering, Where was I, and how did I not encounter so many things? Do not worry; this is typical. This happened to some participants of Amber Burn this summer too. One of the art grants, Theraportal, turned out to be the hidden gem of Amber Burn. Did you miss it or did you manage to come across it? Nevertheless, we would like to talk a bit more about this art. |

There was it—an art installation surrounded by forest. The space was illuminated by hanging LED lights. The theremin—an electronic musical instrument controlled without physical contact by the performer—was glowing in the center. It’s named after its inventor, Leon Theremin. It generates music tones by two high-frequency oscillators. The pitch can be controlled by the movement of the performer's hand towards and away from the circuit.

Upon entrance to the area, surrounded by speakers, you could notice a slight sound as if someone or something was reacting to your movements... The purpose of the art was to temporarily turn everyone into a Theremin performer, and it was a great success. Anyone was able to approach the stand and create sounds by moving their body and hands above the Theremin antennas, immersing themselves in the music. People were playing music and dancing around the installation. It was a unique and interactive way to engage with music and art! Thank you, Justas and the team, for this extraordinary experience. |

The theme for Burning Man 2025 is 'Tomorrow Today,' and it encourages participants to think about how today's actions shape the future. It invites us to reflect on the potential of creating a better tomorrow, to dream, innovate, and drive sustainability together. Quoting Stuart Mangrum: 'Our strength lies in our ethos: in the power of communal effort, in our commitment to leaving a positive trace, and most of all in the Principle of Participation, to “make the world real through actions that open the heart.”'' Check out the link below for more. |
