It's February, we are back with more klezmer, Yiddish and more!

It's February, love is in the air, and we are back with more Yiddish events! As we slowly wake up from winter slumber, join us and our friends for some Klezmer, Yiddish poetry, and theatre.

Moreover, we are happy to announce the Shtetl Berlin Festival, which will take place June 10-15. We are also returning this spring with more zingerayen and jam sessions, Yiddish Dance balls, and brand new Yiddish Open mics! Besides, there is a celebration of Yiddish Berlin Cabaret soon, so keep your eyes peeled for all that!

SAVE THE DATE!

A theater piece featuring our own shtetlniks

Daniel Kahn and Christian Dawid

February 22nd, 7:30pm at Maxim Gorki Theatre

Not Yiddish, but related in spirit: Daniel Kahn, Christian Dawid and Stella Morgenstern have created a dark and humorous ‘Balladspiel’, a tale of a world-soon-no-more, based on Daniel Kehlmann’s novel ‘Tyll’: the story of the poor miller Claus, whose curiosity and non-conformity lead to his horrible downfall and demonic condemnation. Told through witty lyrics by Daniel & Stella, gorgeous original music by Christian, and whimsically dark drawings by Jerry Merose.

Originally commissioned by Einstein Forum Potsdam, this is the first performance in Berlin - one night only, don’t miss it!

(In English & German, with German & English supertitles.

SHTETL BERLIN

We at Shtetl are committed to continuing our work of promoting Yiddish culture in Berlin. While that is the main focus of our organization, we want to encourage all in our community to remain mindful of the current conflicts in Ukraine and Israel/Palestine/Lebanon, do what you can to support those in need, and continue working for a better and more just world for all.
