| Canine leptospirosis is a bacterial infection that can severely affect dogs and poses a risk to humans. It is caused by various strains of Leptospira bacteria. Dogs can contract leptospirosis through contact with contaminated water, soil, or urine from infected animals. The symptoms can range from mild or subclinical to severe and potentially life-threatening. As a zoonotic disease, leptospirosis requires precautions to protect humans who may be exposed to infected dogs or contaminated environments. In this lecture, we will explore the different strains of Leptospira that can cause leptospirosis, as well as the available diagnosis and treatment options for dogs. Additionally, we will discuss the prevention measures and the challenges associated with vaccinating dogs against this disease. |
