From 16th to 20th of October, Modena welcomed the second artistic residency of Project Butterfly, marking a pivotal moment as the team moves toward the final stages of their sustainable opera production. Building on the success of the first gathering in Gdansk, this residency took place at the Teatro Comunale Modena Pavarotti-Freni, where composers, librettists, and institutional partners collaborated to refine every detail and align the performance with Project Butterfly’s ambitious sustainability goals.
In a special session on 17th October, students from Selmi High School in Modena—who originally developed the storyline for the opera—had the opportunity to meet with librettist Vincenzo De Vivo and composer Marco Attura. This inspiring interaction connected the students with the creative minds shaping the opera’s narrative and music, further embedding educational and environmental awareness into the project.
Over four days, creative teams from Italy, Finland, and Poland worked closely with the artistic committee, as well as the director, set, and costume designers, to finalize the production concept. This residency emphasized the integration of environmental consciousness into the arts, ensuring that each component of the opera reflects Project Butterfly’s commitment to sustainability.
Following the foundational discussions in Gdansk, the outcomes from Modena have been crucial, bringing Project Butterfly one step closer to its premiere and future performances across Europe.
Stay tuned as Project Butterfly advances toward its next milestone on the journey to reimagining sustainable opera for audiences everywhere!
