Are you prepared for a hurricane?

North Carolina hurricane season runs from

June 1 to November 30.

The peak period, when the most severe hurricanes typically occur, is from mid-August to mid-October

Seven ways to prepare for a hurricane in Raleigh

  1. Monitor Weather Updates: Keep an eye on local weather reports and alerts to stay informed about the hurricane’s path and intensity.
  2. Create an Emergency Kit: Include essentials like water, non-perishable food, medications, flashlights, batteries, and a first aid kit.
  3. Secure Your Home: Bring in loose outdoor items, trim trees, and reinforce windows to minimize damage.
  4. Prepare for Power Outages: Have backup power sources like flashlights and extra batteries. Avoid overstocking your refrigerator to prevent food spoilage.
  5. Store Important Documents: Keep important papers, such as medical records and identification, in a waterproof container.
  6. Plan for Pets: Ensure you have enough pet food and supplies, and bring pets indoors during the storm.
  7. Know Your Evacuation Routes: Familiarize yourself with local evacuation routes and have a plan in place in case you need to leave quickly.

Stay safe and be prepared!😊
