| Hair follicle treatment helps scars! |

Hair transplant helps remodel scar tissue.
|
|
In a study at Imperial College, London, involving three volunteers, skin scars began to behave more like uninjured skin after they were treated with hair follicle transplants. The scarred skin harbored new cells and blood vessels, remodeled collagen to restore healthy patterns, and even expressed genes found in healthy unscarred skin. |
|
Scar tissue in the skin lacks hair, sweat glands, blood vessels and nerves, which are vital for regulating body temperature and detecting pain and other sensations. Scarring can also impair movement as well as potentially causing discomfort and emotional distress. The researchers transplanted hair follicles into the mature scars on the scalp of three participants. Scarring causes the outermost layer of skin - the epidermis - to thin out, leaving it vulnerable to tears. At six months post-transplant, the epidermis had doubled in thickness alongside increased cell growth, bringing it to around the same thickness as uninjured skin. The next skin layer down, the dermis, is populated with connective tissue, blood vessels, sweat glands, nerves, and hair follicles. Scar maturation leaves the dermis with fewer cells and blood vessels, but after transplantation the number of cells had doubled at six months, and the number of vessels had reached nearly healthy-skin levels by four months. |
|
The hair follicle likely delivers multiple growth factors all at once that remodel scar tissue. This lends further support to the use of treatments like hair transplantation that alter the very architecture and genetic expression of scars to restore function. |

MSTR® at the IN FORMA CONGRESS - Pavia, Italy February 24 - 2024 |
|
On 24 February 2024, the "In Forma DAY 24 Congress" was held at the Pavia Congress Centre, near Milan, Italy. With a packed programme of talks by nationally and internationally renowned experts in the field of rehabilitation, created a unique opportunity to learn, share and deepen knowledge on fascia, posture, pain and scars. With an audience of doctors, physiotherapists and other medical professionals, Gian Marco Piras MSTR® trainer for Italy, presented a paper which was highly appreciated by the 150 congress participants. His presentation entitled 'Scars and MSTR® treatment', focused on the importance of scar treatment and the importance of MSTR® as a manual scar treatment. The research on Cesarean section scars carried out in 2019 in Newcastle was highly appreciated by all in attendance. Great work from Gian Marco! Bravo! |

A special gift for you... |
|
Many of you reading this newsletter devote much of your time
to help people out of pain. Sometimes this can be difficult - especially if the pain is chronic
or if it's system-wide...or if doctors can't help any further. So I made this meditation video and separate audio soundtrack to help.
It's free - so share the link with all your contacts who might be in pain.
Pass it forward to those who might need it/
And because we know YouTube loves to interrupt videos every 5 minutes
with their ads, there is also a link to an ad-free version.
If you like this gift - just give it a 'Like'. Thank you and best wishes - Alastair
