| Our staff have been excited to plan some winter camp activities which will be full of outdoor adventures. If we have snow, we will venture out on snowshoes for winter wildlife hikes. As we make our way to ‘Hemlock Cove’ to see our resident porcupines, we will look for other wildlife signs and tracks along the way. Campers will also be able to go kicksledding around the ponds and play games in the forest. If we don't have snow, we will do an ‘Amazing Race’, play disc golf on our 9-hole course, make a walking stick, do some geocaching, learn about winter birds and play forest games like ‘Coyote Catch'. Date & Time: January 2 – January 5, 2024, from 9 am - 4pm.
Location: Tiffin Conservation Area Cost: $46 / day. Extended care available for an extra cost |

| How to use NVCA's flood messages? |
This January, NVCA issued two flood messages. You may have heard about these messages through the media or if you followed us on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. But what do these flood messages mean? What should you do when NVCA issues a flood message? NVCA monitors weather conditions, river flows and lake levels to determine if there is a risk of flooding. If there is, we issue flood messages to alert municipal flood coordinators and the public about flood risks. The municipal flood coordinators include local municipalities and school boards, emergency response agencies and health units. The coordinators then implement their own local flood response plan and assist local residents and other key partners. Contact your municipality to learn more about their flooding response plan. |
NVCA can issue four types of flood messages. |
| |
| Water Safety Statements are issued when there are high river and stream flows, unsafe banks, melting ice or other factors that could be dangerous for recreational users such as anglers, canoeists, hikers, children, pets etc. Flooding is not expected when this message is issued. |
Flood Outlook messages are issued as an early notice of the potential for flooding based on weather forecasts calling for heavy rain, snow melt, high wind or other conditions that could lead to high runoff, cause ice jams, lakeshore flooding or erosion. |
| |
| Flood Watch messages are issued when Flooding is possible in specific watercourses or municipalities. Municipalities, emergency services and individual landowners in flood-prone areas should prepare. |
Flood Warnings are issued when flooding is imminent or already occurring in specific watercourses or municipalities. Municipalities and individuals should take action to deal with flood conditions. This may include road closures and evacuations. |
