Hosted by Ethan Nadelman, #GFN24 panel discussion 'The costs of prohibition' will tackle the unifying obstacles facing harm reduction advocates, whether in the well-established substance misuse harm reduction sector or in the rapidly developing tobacco harm reduction field. Prohibition comes with its costs, and this panel of experts will bring their professional expertise to a challenging subject. |
|
Panel discussion host Ethan Nadelman has been at the forefront of drugs harm reduction in the United States, spearheading drug policy reform and steadfastly ensuring harm reduction is prioritised in public health discussion. Joining Ethan are Professor Sharifa Ezat Wan Puteh, Chairman of the Malaysian Society of Harm Reduction and Professor of Public Health at the National University of Malaysia; Fiona Patten, a leading voice in Australian drug and tobacco control and former Australian politician; Harry Shapiro, a prominent writer on drug and tobacco harm reduction; and Lindsey Stroud, Senior Fellow at the Taxpayers Protection Alliance. From their diverse professional backgrounds, these panellists will explore the direct impact of prohibition on public health and its economic ramifications, and the lessons we can transfer from substance misuse harm reduction to tobacco harm reduction. |
