"All our efforts are dust in the wind of time, but look how that dust catches the light, look how it settles on things and softens their angles, bringing seemingly disparate surroundings into harmony. "

-Joseph Baietto, 2014

Most of my recent work is completed on Yupo paper. Rather than frame it under glazing, I prefer to mount the work on tondo panels.

This process is it's own challenge; we created a video that shows how its done.

Watch how work is mounted here

FitzgeraldArt's 'swan song' Open Studio

A salute to an incredible artist, Liz Whitney Quisgard.

About her work she said, "In my youthful, truth seeking days, I wrote reams of justification for my work. Now I put less and less value on truth. Words have become irrelevant, so when called upon to explain what I do, I am inclined to say-what you see is what you get." No preachments. No symbols.

Nothing about the human condition.

Liz's goals as an artist were to surprise and engage the mind by seducing the eye. From her home studio in Lower Manhattan flowed a steady stream of kaleidoscopic elements in yarn and buckram, dazzling paintings reminiscent of Classical and Byzantine architecture, and fantastical, swirling sculptures intended to bombard, excite and entertain the viewer. It is clear that the glamorous imagery in her work evokes elements of foreign cultures such as Arabian domes and arches and fanciful geometric patterns absorbed and internalized during her extensive travels.

Fluid Media group has a new exhibition posted to Artsy.net,

The Practice of Everyday Life,

Find it here.

From the curatorial statement:

The experiences we navigate everyday become a stepping off point for the artist’s understanding of the relationships between color, space, light and form. Like Ellsworth Kelly’s fascination with ornithology or Giorgio Morandi’s vases, anything can become a catalyst for creative revelation.
These experiences feed the creative spirit and find their way into the artwork. The seemingly mundane seeps into art and is transformed through the creative process.
The transcendence of the subject becomes complete at the time of viewing, when the viewer experiences the work. Whether that original spark is realized by the viewer is less important than the experience of the artwork in itself.

Glance Gander Gaze,

organized and curated by Deborah Barlow. From her curatorial statement:

Glancing is an instinctive, automatic action—a survival mechanism that continuously monitors our ever-changing surroundings. Unlike the detached nature of the gaze, glancing links us more intimately with the world we inhabit, collecting a wealth of information. Peripheral vision and bodily sensations are both acknowledged in this process. “Glancing discovers whole colonies of the to-be-seen world,” writes Casey. “Places where sight has never before been—or if it has, it now sees differently. The glance guides the eye as it comes to know the perceived world, leading it out of morestaid and settled ways of looking.”

Gander occupies a middle ground between the glance and the gaze. It is a willingness to wander without intention, to explore what is often overlooked. Gandering can take us into disorientation, perplexity and the undiscovered. The benefits of letting the eye meander can be surprising.

Into Wildness

Spliced Connector group's current exhibition at Artsy.net,

Into Wildness, features the work of 27 member artists. It remains on view through the month of May.

From the curatorial statement:

"There is a human wildness held beneath the skin that finds all barriers brutishly unbearable." -Jim Harrison

In this world there is a tumbling of matter and spirit, which makes for wildness. This tumbling makes space for places thought carries us to, in consideration of the roiling change we live with.

There are many different ideas about what wildness is. Something untethered; irrationality, extreme emotional engagement. Letting loose. Stochastic. The implication is that something which is wild is untamed, and untamable.....
