Tally Ho!

Thank you to those who joined the pre-ride last Saturday. The assistance "scoping out" trails for any issues and the donations to support the hounds are greatly appreciated!

The Tally Ho! benefit ride is a collaboration between the Fort Leavenworth Hunt (with staff member Lucy Hirsch in the lead), the American Endurance Ride Conference, and the National Trail Ride Conference. This fun-filled weekend offers opportunities to ride—as a competitor or for pleasure—several trails of varying lengths and levels of difficulty. There will also be potluck dinners on Friday and Saturday evenings and a silent auction throughout the weekend. All proceeds support the Leavenworth Foxhunters Association! (See complete schedule below.)

Help is still needed with this, our biggest fundraiser of the year!

  1. Donate Silent Auction Items (Contact to Angela Fain to drop off prior to event or on Friday 12 April at McGuire's)
  2. Buy Auction Items – Silent Auction 10–4 Saturday 13 April.
  3. Donate food for concession sales—eggs, OJ, coffee, desserts, side dishes, etc. Contact Lillian Davis/Angela Fain for a full list and to let them know what you are donating.
  4. Ride!!!!
  5. Volunteer We are currently in need of a Greeter and Parking Attendant. For other positions/ways to help contact Lucy Hirsch.
  6. Hang out!!! Potluck Friday, 12 April 6pm and Saturday 13 April Dinner 5pm-ish (Concessions). Perfect time to share your love of fox hunting and recruit new members to join our fun.

FLH Dixie Needs Your Help!

During the season, Dixie suffered an ACL injury that requires surgical repair. Dr. Franklin at Kansas City Canine Orthopedics has graciously offered a generous discount on his fees, but the cost is still substantial. LFA is “fronting” the money for the surgery so that Dixie can be made comfortable as soon as possible, but we need your donations to help recoup that outlay.

Want to know a GREAT way to donate toward Dixie's care AND have a chance to win an awesome hand-crafted, FLH-branded piece of art? Purchase some tickets for the coat/hat/tack rack below!

Another Nick Redman original will be awarded at the FLH Annual Meeting!
This coat/hat/tack rack features a hand-engraved FLH hound and hand-forged hooks. (Could that be Dixie...? What a great memento to have for supporting the organization that helps care for our hounds!) Perfect for home or barn. Raffle tickets are $20 each or 6 for $100. (Need not be present to win. Use the QR code below to purchase tickets.)

Central States Hound Show – May 4

Hound shows provide an opportunity for hunts to showcase their hounds' confirmation, fitness, and keenness against hounds from other hunts in the region. They also provide a great opportunity for camaraderie and networking. We are proud to the the Central States Hound Show for the (Xth) year this May 4th. Please see details below.

This year's table theme is Kentucky Derby Winners! (Each participating hunt will decorate their table with items related to a Derby-winning horse.)

Volunteer to Show Hounds!

Volunteers are needed to help us show our hounds! Showing hounds involves some "pre-work"—learning what happens in the ring and practicing what to do—before the show, then being present to prep and handle hounds on show day. If you are able to/interested in showing hounds, please contact MFH Teresa Griffith.

Junior Pack Hound Show Training Saturday, April 13

Dr. Steve Thomas will be hosting a training session for juniors interested in learning how to show hounds. Training will take place at his home at 2pm on Saturday, April 13. (While this unfortunately conflicts with part of the Tally Ho ride, it was the only time the majority of juniors were available.) If interested in attending, please contact Steve or Teresa.

Payment can be made via Venmo to organizer and FLH MFH/honorary huntsman Steve Thomas using the QR code below or via check.

LAC Information

Image description

A Local Access Credential (LAC) allows civilians to enter Fort Leavenworth without having to stop at the visitor center each time. Members needing to obtain or renew a LAC must complete the Applicant Information and Criminal History sections of the LAC application (click image to download) and submit it to Master Candy Smith. You may also email your info to Candy or provide it over the phone (913-948-0189) and she will complete the form for you. She will then submit it to the FMWR Director, who will sign it and forward it to the Visitor Center (VCC) for processing. Current processing time is 2.5–3 weeks. Renewing LAC holders, please note this is a new form.

For those who need only temporary access to Ft. Leavenworth (for the hunt ball, for example), please register for a one-day pass online.
