Conserving our Heritage

Protecting our Future

Dear {$firstname},

Welcome to the February 2024 RDS Newsletter. We begin with a reminder about our winter-warmer talk and a change of title.

Talk: 'Swallows and Amazons and the Russian Revolution'

Wednesday 31st January, 14:30

Wisdom House

Image description

After the success of his talk last year, Martin Radford is returning to share another aspect of his historical research.

This is an account of the extraordinary life of Arthur Ransome before he started writing the Swallows and Amazons books. Amongst other adventures, he was sued by Oscar Wilde's lover, worked as a newspaper reporter in St Petersburg during the Russian Revolution, and eloped with Trotsky's secretary.

Join us for a warm, enlightening winter talk at 2.30pm, Wisdom House, Romsey.

All welcome, just come along on the day.

Exotic Visitors

The cold weather in January was the prompt for a pair of rare waxwings to fly south and feed on the red berries round the new allotments in Kings Chase.  News of their arrival soon spread and twitching photographers converged on the site to watch and get a special picture of the pair.
