At the SEFI Annual conference this year, we were delighted to see many of the Siemens Skills for Sustainability Network members during the conference which had the strongest attendance in the history of the event. | This year the Best papers were awarded in 4 categories, including a diversity and inclusiveness award in memory of Prof Susanne Ihsen. Gunter Bombaerts and Diana Martin reflect on this and have invited the top scholars in the field of ethics and engineering education to contemplate on several ‘ethical questions’ related to this theme. They wrote 8 editorials tackling different aspects of this hot topic. |

| In October, we welcomed a new member of the SEFI staff - Denise Bernardo, the new Communication Assistant. She is currently a Sustainable Materials Engineering master's student at KU Leuven, where she also volunteers as a Label Ambassador for EIT RawMaterials. | The first EELISA Conference brought together the members of this European University for the first time to Politechnica University of Bucharest from 4 to 6 October 2023. SEFI brought the latest views on Engineering Education in two sessions on Friday 6 October.

The morning session presented presented views of higher engineering education stakeholders Ljiljana Kerawi (student from BEST), Alex Tachnini of Mathworks (industry) and Raffaella Manzini, dean of Faculty of industrial engineering at LIUC, as well as Sophie Grivaux, dean of studies of EELISA and Timothée Toury, secretary general of EUT+. The afternoon session was a hands-on workshop led by Sofie Craps and Greet Langie from KU Leuven: “Engineering competencies development through the prism of Professional Roles and Life-Long Learning.” |

| European Young Engineers is looking for ambitious PhD students with an interest to collaborate on research projects on the topic of engineering education. | On Monday 25th September, the UCL Engineering Foundation Year welcomed 19 students, who were selected from a pool of over 1,400 applicants. Intended to make study at the Faculty of Engineering more accessible to students from “non-traditional” educational backgrounds, the Engineering Foundation Year is open specifically to those who experience sociological barriers to higher education and attainment in education. → More information about the event here |
