| Check out the foliage at the Bluffs! |
This 400-acre conservation area offers a full day of exploration and adventure, with breathtaking vistas of the surrounding countryside and glimpses of the area’s history. See where settlers once toiled to cut a living out of the wilderness. Timber and limestone proved to be big businesses for this area, resulting in the establishment of nearby communities like Singhampton and Glen Huron. Connect with the Bruce Trail as it makes its way through the property or venture down one of its side trails to catch a variety of unique features. NBCA supports part of the main Blue Mountains Bruce Trail Club trail and the Betty Carter Side Trail, the Keyhole Side Trail and the Ian Lang Memorial Trail. Love the Bluffs? We have apparel! Check it out here. |

| Volunteer to plant trees beside Sheldon Creek |
Let's grow the forest along the river corridor to help keep Sheldon Creek cool and clean. Join us for a morning of tree planting on an ecological restoration project site. NVCA and South Simcoe Streams Network have completed 600m of river bank stabilization and floodplain enhancement. We now need your help to reforest the corridor. We will be planting native trees and shrubs to shade the creek and improve wildlife habitat. This event is in partnership with South Simcoe Streams Network. Individuals, families and community groups are welcome! |

| Understanding Natural Hazards: Meander Belt |
Many areas in the Nottawasaga Watershed contain natural hazards. These areas are regulated by NVCA to help avoid the loss of life and damage to property. To illustrate these regulations, we developed nine animated images of some of the most common natural hazards found in the Nottawasaga Watershed and where development should be placed in order to be safe. You can check them out here! The area where rivers and streams will move into is called a meander belt. Areas in meander belts experience erosion, including bank erosion and sideways migration, which can lead to the collapse of river banks and damage to developments located nearby. Meander belts also are sensitive ecosystems that provide habitat for many plant and animal species. NVCA regulates development in meander belts to reduce the risks associated with erosion hazards and to protect the natural environment. Regulating development in meander belts also help maintain water quality and protect development from flooding. |
