On Wednesday 20th September a group of intrepid Romsey and District Society walkers set out in high winds, with the threat of rain, on a 4-mile stroll from the White Horse pub in Ampfield along the lesser used paths. The rectangular route took the group through Ampfield Wood to Slackstead, round the edge of the public access wood, back via Knapp Lane and the little nature wood around Ampfield Church. There was a moment’s reflection at the memorial to some World War Two American Airmen, before returning to the White Horse for lunch. The weather was timed beautifully as, after a dry walk, it poured with rain an arrival at the pub.
Thanks to Nick Hutson for leading and the members for braving the weather.
