The United States and Papua New Guinea successfully concluded a joint maritime patrol in September 2023, marking their first collaborative effort to enhance regional security and resource management in Papua New Guinea's exclusive economic zone (EEZ). The operation, led by Papua New Guinea with support from the U.S. Coast Guard, included notable achievements such as improved maritime domain awareness, cultural exchanges, and efforts to combat illegal maritime activities, particularly illegal fishing.
