    University of Oxford awarded £3 million to establish HealthTech Research Centre

    University of Oxford awarded £3 million to establish HealthTech Research Centre

    Congratulations to the University of Oxford’s Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences. In partnership with Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust they have been awarded £3 million by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) to establish a new HealthTech Research Centre (HRC).

    SPCR Funding:

    • EMPOWER study (CI Sharon Dixon) on technologies for women’s healthcare - Project No.525
    • The TOUCAN study (CI Gail Hayward); the evaluation of novel rapid diagnostics for urinary tract infection - Project No: 590
    • The RAPTOR-C19 study (CI Brian Nicholson / Richard Hobbs); SPCR provided partial funding to support this work together with the University of Oxford plus urgent public health funding from the NIHR through the CONDOR platform. RAPTOR-C19 was a clinical evaluation study of diagnostics for SARS-CoV-2 conducted in community healthcare settings - Project No. 495

    The editorial speaks about the challenges that nurses face of developing clinical academic careers in primary care and community nursing and how a national community of practice (CoP) has been supporting this area of development. SPCR Primary Care Nursing colleague Dr Andrew Finney played a pivotal role in the Community of Practice and was a co-author on the paper.

    NIHR Evidence Collection: ‘Who’s who in General Practice?

    This Collection brings together research for general practices and Primary Care Networks to help them maximise benefit from new roles and the growing diversity in their staff. It could be used by practices to help patients and the public understand the changes they are experiencing in primary care. NIHR draw primarily on research funded by the NIHR, but also on other significant research findings.     Call for abstracts: We are interested in both completed, and ongoing, work. Submissions for oral presentations and posters are welcomed. Abstracts must be no longer than 250 words in total (using this proforma). All abstracts will be reviewed by experienced academics and public contributors.     Registration: Registration for the event is now open, where you will also find a link to the payment page. The event will commence at 9.30am and finish at 3.30pm. The cost for attending will be £40 for SAPC members and £80 for non-SAPC members. Non-members may be able to join SAPC https://sapc.ac.uk/members/join and become eligible for the SAPC member rate.
