Upcoming events and information at the Burnaby Neighbourhod House

Tis the season of giving here at the Burnaby Neighbourhood House! These past few weeks we have seen so much generosity from our neighbours, community members, and businesses. Our Neighbourlies mascot Boomi was onsite at the Burnaby Village Museum spreading holiday cheer, the Burnaby Firefighters hosted their annual Toy Drive at Metropolis at Metrotown, Gilmore Community School hosted a sock drive, RBC Insurance hosted a Food Drive, and Parkland generously donated towards the Burnaby Christmas Bureau.



Before we see what's happening this month, we all here at the Burnaby Neighbourhood House would like to wish you and your loved ones a safe, happy, and healthy holiday. We will see you in the New Year!

The Province's Empty Stocking Fund



For 105 years, The Province's Empty Stocking Fund has been dedicated to making the holidays brighter for B.C. residents who are less fortunate. With the generosity of our readers and supporters, the fund gives money to B.C. community organizations that provide food hampers and gifts to children, needy families and singles. The 2023 campaign will run until December 31 and during this time funds can be donated online.

BNH Youth Connections Grant Program

apply now!



The BNH Youth Connections Grant program is an upstream, youth-led, community asset building and well-being program designed to engage youth to improve Burnaby neighbourhoods. This program is open to youth of all genders and ethnicities aged 12 to 17 living in Burnaby.

You can apply for a grant up to $500, to share your ideas, gifts and talents with your peers or neighbours, and to help you bring your project idea to life. Once you have applied for a grant and your project has been approved, you do not need to pay the money back.

Family drop-ins provide a variety of opportunities for families to socialize, to have a safe and fun place to play and learn and to get parenting information. Chronically Queer (CQ) is a peer-facilitated support group for 2SLGBTQIA+ people who identify as chronically ill, crip, disabled, mad, and/or neurodivergent.

CQ is a supportive, caring, and welcoming environment where participants can be themselves fully and openly without fear of judgment. At this group meeting you will have an opportunity to be in community, share personal stories, listen to others, learn coping strategies and advocacy skills, and hear about potential paid opportunities.

Stretching and Meditation

Fridays, 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM 

at The Amazing Brentwood



We are excited to announce this new class exploring holistic stretching and meditation techniques that combines motion and inaction to cultivate both the interior and exterior of the body. Much like Qi Gong, in this practice you will learn a set of exercises known for rejuvenating and energizing.

With minimal instruction, participants can easily follow along and gradually understand the movements.

This class will run up until Friday December 15, 2023. The 2024 Winter term runs from January 18 – March 29.

Ukulele Classes

This is a new 12-week class starting in the New Year! It’s a no-experience-required Ukulele Class for folks with mild to moderate dementia and their caregivers as well as seniors.

Over the duration of the course, you will learn 3 – 4 chords and a variety of song choices and different decades of music.

Qi Gong

Mondays, from 2 PM to 3 PM

Qi Gong is a personal practice that led to fitness, flexibility, and internal peace that combines the physical benefits of exercise with the spiritual qualities of meditation, leading to full nourishment of both mind and body.

There are many different types of Qi Gong practices, but most of them involve slow-moving exercises that reflect the qualities of nature.



This class will run up until Saturday December 16, 2023. The 2024 Winter term runs from January 20 – March 30.
