NVCA staff wishes you a safe and joyous holiday

Image description

As 2023 comes to an end, staff at NVCA would like to thank all of our partners and supporters for committing to protect and improve the beautiful Nottawasaga Watershed.

With your support, we planted forests, restored rivers and streams such as Sheldon Creek and the Mad River, and helped our next generation find ways to protect nature.

We worked with many property owners to ensure development is in a safe place and monitored our environment to see if what we're doing is working.

Our conservation areas welcomed many visitors who wanted to explore nature, or just simply relax and recharge. We told stories to inspire our partners, municipalities and residents to learn about climate change in our watershed and what can be done.

None of this could have been possible without your support! We look forward to many more exciting projects and initiatives in 2024.

Meanwhile, if you are looking for something to do with your friends or family during the winter break, check out these programs below!

Winter Camp Tiffin

Register for winter camp

Our staff have been excited to plan some winter camp activities which will be full of outdoor adventures.

If we have snow, we will venture out on snowshoes for winter wildlife hikes. As we make our way to ‘Hemlock Cove’ to see our resident porcupines, we will look for other wildlife signs and tracks along the way. Campers will also be able to go kicksledding around the ponds and play games in the forest.

If we don't have snow, we will do an ‘Amazing Race’ play disc golf on our 9-hole course, make a walking stick, play ‘Coyote Catch as well as other forest games, do some geocaching and still learn about winter birds.

Date & Time: January 2 – January 5, 2024, from 9 am - 4pm.

Location: Tiffin Conservation Area

Cost: $46 / day. Extended care available for an extra cost

Holiday Reading

Village Media has shared some columns written by various NVCA staff that explains what happens behind the scenes, and why we do what we do. The columns are short and pleasant to read.

The Minesing Wetlands are home to a diverse array of habitats. The mix of fen, marsh and swamp wetlands provides habitat for sensitive plants and animals, including a number of rare species and species at risk.

Land protected by conservation authority, including Minesing Wetlands, helps 'reduce the effects of a changing climate'
