Hi all

A quick message today covering:

  • Competition Winner
  • Casual Slaughters
  • One Night on Earth - Free
  • The Regular Free Books
Image description

Our latest title was out a couple of weeks ago and I've resisted telling you because, for some reason, Amazon refuse to stock it on the UK site. After much toing and froing, I’ve given up – but it is, of course, available from our other webshop. Links on the book’s page.

An entertaining read, Casual Slaughters is richly populated with quirky, realistic characters in a delightful location. Beautifully crafted dialect and malapropisms a-plenty complement a rich seam of quaint humour, all coming together to create what is a truly delicious detective story, the third by the Reverend James Reginald Spittal (aka James Quince: 1875-1951). Links for paperback and ePub here.

I spent time this wintry afternoon packing up a whole bunch of books because the winner of the 2023 OREON Series Giveaway has been drawn! The lucky reader is a chap called Colin from Dorset and he'll be receiving the boxful of murder in the next week or so. Thanks to everyone for joining in, sharing and commenting - it's really appreciated and I'm looking forward to doing it again next year! (By which time I may have repainted my walls!)

A decade ago I published a couple of children’s Bible stories (with stickers!) and one of them, One Night on Earth, is a fun and colourful rhyming Christmas story. If you’d like to download and print it off to read with your kids/grandkids feel free – you can grab it here. The rhyming is err, dubious in places but the watercolours are beautiful! It’s a lovely thing (but sadly no longer comes with stickers...). The Link again.

And finally, if you joined the Newsletter list – Welcome! – to enter the competition (commiserations if you’re not Colin from Dorset!) you’ll have missed out on the free Fatality on Fleet Street normally offered to sign-ups. That and Godfrey Benson’s Tracks in the Snow are available to download free from this link.

That’s it – it's been a busy and productive year but Richard and I are really looking forward to what comes next for OREON. Hopefully we'll have all sorts of news for you next month. For myself, the next few weeks are being spent rebuilding bits of my house. Hopefully we’ll both - the house and I! - emerge undamaged... Whatever you and your family do at this time of year – I hope you have a wonderful time.

All best,

Jon and Richard
