Scar tissue that forms around a growing pancreatic tumor called a pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma harbors valuable clues as to how long people with these cancers are likely to live, according to a new study led by researchers at Stanford Medicine. |

The architecture and organization of cells in the scar tissue can be used to categorize patients into two groups. Members of one group lived a median of nearly two years longer than members of the other group—a substantial difference for a cancer with a five-year survival rate after surgery of only 20% to 25%. In fact, the researchers found that the patterns of a patient's scar tissue are among the most predictive prognostic elements for this type of cancer—second only to the stage of the tumor at diagnosis. The finding suggests that cells in the scar tissue, as well as its overall structure, interact with the cancer cells to either egg on or tamp down their growth. Drugs that intercept pro-growth messages, or mimic cellular conversations that discourage growth, may lead to new avenues of therapy. "Our study puts new therapeutic approaches on the table," said professor of surgery Michael Longaker, MD. "Should we be treating not just the tumor but also the scar tissue? I would say yes. I just wanted to thank you again for the wonderful workshop you presented on Sunday and for the wealth of information you’ve provided me in better supporting my clients. I have already been able to use the techniques with 2 clients this week, both of whom I’ve been having difficulty in helping with the tightness, texture and discomfort of their mastectomy scars.
We were all blown away with how much improvement we saw with just one treatment using the MSTR® technique this week. I’m also really excited about how much improvement I see in lymphedema around the scar after treating with the MSTR® technique - that has been a bonus prize!
Two of our physio’s who have completed the course have been doing some MSTR® on a client of ours who has Multiple Sclerosis and suffers from paresthesia in one of her legs, with the intention of making space for the nerves. She has gone from not being able to touch her leg to being able to have the physio’s touch her leg to cue in exercise with no problem….this is so good! And lastly, one of my oncology clients has just had very major surgery for a recurrence of cancer. I have done a lot of work on her scar from the previous surgery and the surgeon was very impressed on the condition of the scar. He was able to cut through the original scar which he said he is normally not able to do. He asked her what she had been doing, so she said I had been working on the scar for her. Very good advertisement for MSTR® !
