Staff Updates

A Salute to Mike England

After 5 years at Forfar, Mike has become a bit of an institution at IFS. Starting off as an intern in 2017, he quickly became an important member of the staff and served as a Divemaster during his second intern season through 2019.

Starting in September 2020, Mike came back as the Station Director and got us through the difficult years of COVID and into this past season when things started to return to normal. Mike literally saved lives while at Forfar, is beloved by the local staff, and was a trusted and dependable member of the IFS staff (along with Fish his dog). Mike has been at the field station this past month training our new Station Director, Ian Connolly, and we are so very grateful for the time he has been with IFS and wish him and Fish the very best in their next adventures.

Our New Educational Staff

A big welcome to Forfar's new 2023-2024 Educational staff Robert, Kate, Michelle, Caitlin, Derek and James, and new Station Director Ian. They arrived on Andros at the beginning of October and are looking forward to working with all of our students and educators this season. We are so fortunate to have a great crew this year with a variety of backgrounds and experience.

Conservation

The Coral is Calling

Our Forfar Educational team works closely with staff from The Perry Institute for Marine Science and Reef Rescue Network to set up and maintain coral restoration plots near Forfar.

We have had a coral nursery since 2015 and in 2023 we established 5 coral domes at one of our Dive sites. As these coral fragments grow they will become an artificial reef.

In addition to this ongoing relationship with Reef Rescue Network, we have recently partnered with them on their Coral is Calling campaign.

Giving Tuesday

A Global Generosity Movement

Giving Tuesday was established in 2012 as a global generosity movement. It's a day that encourages people to do good and people often donate to or volunteer for causes they care about each year.

This Giving Tuesday, IFS is raising money for our Dr. Ben Bohl Scholarship Fund which allows students to attend Forfar Field Station and experience its life changing programming. Our goal this year is $3,500 and we need your help to get there. No amount is too small and every dollar helps. Please also consider sharing our cause with your family and friends. We couldn't do it without the generous support of our Alumni Network!
